360 or something else? 2
I am on the board of an organization where the ED really relies and esteems a staff member ¡ª but it seems the rest of the staff has a hard time with her and they do not see actual output of worth. Do you have any suggestions for a way forward. I had considered a 360 type review- can you recommend one? ¡ª and thoughts or experience? ¡ªI have read that they can be destructive of morale. This is a small newly growing NGO and other than this issue the morale and teamwork and trust is very hard. We want to preserve that! Thanks!-- forgive typos! The Group Share-Out 13
Hello! A team member of mine posed the question below, and I thought this group might have some ideas. Thanks in advance! Would love to tap into the collective brain power of this group around a topic that I have been thinking a lot about lately.... the group share-out.Context: group share-outs after breakout/ small group work seem to provide little value and fail to even keep the attention of the groups listening. I have attempted to make really pointed instructions for what to share out (ex. Friday I asked a group to do 1-2-3, share 1 thing they liked, 2 things they did not like, and 3 suggestions or questions) in an attempt to make these more meaningful and concise. Even with these types of instruction people succumb to the typical rambling summary. In past roles, I have simply skipped the share-out completely, but doing so can have social consequences in a group such as feelings of lack of transparency, or feelings like the group discussion wasn't valued, etc.How can we make the group-share out more engaging and purposeful?

Things you can do with Miro/Mural that you couldn't even do in real life? #hybrid #meetingdesign
Hi everyone, I'm taking a bit of time to look back over my use of digital group workspaces like Mural and Miro (is there a name for this genre of tool?), and was considering some of the capabilities go *beyond* mimicking 'real life', and enable a facilitator to introduce new modalities... So for example: Instantly changing the colour/shape of sticky notes. Duplicating a collection of sticky notes so that multiple groups can sort in parallel and compare what they end up with. Summon everyone (how I love this power!). The ability to easily hide/reveal content like some kind of a magician... Instant 'write-up' - no more deciphering terrible handwriting What features/adaptations have you used as a facilitator which take you beyond the capabilities of duplicating what we used to use in real life? Grateful for anything you can share to add to my list... Thanks, Chris Very interested in your experiences...

tools for small but effective online conversation 5
I am trying to think out how to have a smallish conversation which is the equivalent of a seminar session in person. A small group, perhaps 8-15 people, that are all focused on a specific thread of conversation. I want to a) have video/audio, where I can see everyone b) it would be a bonus if this could have a "fishbowl" format - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fishbowl_(conversation) c) I would like to have a kanban board/voting with a drop and drag view on one side of things d) I want to be able to diagram the discussion (perhaps as a whiteboard) e) I want to be able to have some base cards/images, which can be linked/dragged/manipulated as part of the diagram of the discussion (take the groupworks deck as an example of card images - https://groupworksdeck.org/ ) f) I would like a recording of the whole session g) I would like to be able to export the diagram at the end. If you were going to do this type of work, what online tool would you use? Can you get all of this in one tool? -- JOHN SECHREST Founder, Seattle Angel Conference TEL (541) 250-0844 EMAIL sechrest@... Schedule A Meeting http://seattleangelconference.com @sechrest

Asynchronous Group Discussions 12
Hello everyone, I¡¯m involved in an ongoing project with timezone conflicts that cannot be resolved, and wondered whether any of you have experience with facilitating group discussions asynchronously. I would like to approximate a group discussion as closely as possible as it¡¯s a spectacular group with much to learn from the cross-pollunation of ideas and experiences. Initial thoughts are to split the group in two based on timezones, and then have a process whereby each group reflects on the other group¡¯s output at a later date. If you¡¯d facilitated something similar, I¡¯d love to hear what tools and methodologies you found useful. Many thanks, Emma

A book of interest!
I believe there are a number of ThoughtExchange licencees on this list (as well as folks who've expressed interest in the platform). I wanted to let you know that one of the co-founders of ThoughtExchange, Dave MacLeod, wrote a book entitled "Scaling Conversations-How Leaders Access the Full Potential of People¡± that was released a few days ago. I read it cover to cover and found it quite valuable. I¡¯ve attached a list of the main sections in the book for my own use; however, you may find it gives you a bit of insight into the book (which is available on Amazon). Regardless of whether you use ThoughtExchange, there are plenty of great principles and practices woven throughout the book . . . The 'other' Platforms for Video Conferences and Online Gatherings 14
Hi Guys! I believe this group is the best one to ask about the alternative platforms for video-conference, specially the ones with these 'organic-fluid-natural¡¯ approach: Some examples to get my point out: https://www.wonder.me/ https://spatial.chat/ https://remo.co/ https://www.toucan.events/ (please add the other ones you know as well) Some questions I have: ? What is your experience with these platforms? ? How structured/unstructured is the participants experience? ? How different it is to design/plan/facilitate in these spaces? As in this Summer I¡¯ll study and test with some of these platforms, I would like to hear some thoughts and piggyback on your learnings and experiences. Instead of Mentimeter use . . . ???? 4
Good morning all. I¡¯m experimenting with options for a meeting coming up this week. Here¡¯s what I¡¯m looking for . . . . Mentimeter displays responses to a live open ended questions with great formatting (see example). However, if there are more responses than fit on a slide, it seems to be impossible to display all of the responses back to participants without exporting to a pdf that awkwardly groups the answers based on screen shots. Is anyone aware of a tool that nicely displays responses to a question in real time and then offers an alternative scrollable view of all of the responses? Thanks for your help! Have a great day!
