Learning Styles
In a thread somewhere in the past week I saw a common brain myth shared on this list. I'm not replying to the person because it was in otherwise brilliant email and I don't want to seem like I'm attacking. The myth - people learn effectively in different ways. The fact - we don't. We have preferences, but our preferences aren't always related to what is effective. Some sources on learning styles: ?? ?? ?? ?? If you're?interested in the science of learning - you might start here:??(Its focused on eLearning). Before Covid19 blew my world up, I was putting alot of my spare time energy into understanding effective eLearning. Back to your regularly scheduled crisis Mark |
Re: online fishbowl?
Thanks Sharon for the tip, but as I wrote earlier with?+100 participants I feel uncomfortable with breakouts. I simply want to make sure anyone in the crowd if feeling has anything more to share to jump inside?the bowl and help steer dialogue further. Doing? Fishbowl?+ 1-2-4-ALL with small groups is great and there are all sorts of strings we can use to go deeper or simply to go wider, according to the group needs.? Do you see that this free seat offer may be problematic? Paul Nunesdea | Paulo Nunes de Abreu? +34 667 643 688 Twitter: @nunesdea On Wed, 25 Mar 2020 at 20:45, Sharon Dale <Sharon@...> wrote:

Hi all, I am sorry to break in with the message with actually no original information BUT this is wow! Just wow!? I read the question about how to organise fishbowl discussion via zoom. Re: online fishbowl?
You can do breakout rooms in Zoom but you have to relinquish your access to the "Support" feature where you take control of someone else's computer. Just a heads up for those juggling 1:1 support and delivering live sessions.? On Wed, Mar 25, 2020 at 11:43 AM Paul Nunesdea <p.nunesdea@...> wrote:

Great variant Nancy, for a small group (less than 50) but?with +100 participants I get an unexplainable sense of unease when thinking about breakout groups. Does Zoom webinar has that feature?? Re: Pairing / Supporting: Facilitators on the job
Hi Nancy,?
if that is good for you, and within your 'work/life' boundaries, yes please to being 'on-the-side support'. Do you mean the role: 'at-the-meeting-tech-steward-co-facilitator'?? - and am always happy to share agenda setting, templates etc. - so yes please drop a template in, and I'll come back to the page on Friday morning. best wishes Ed |
Re: Pairing / Supporting: Facilitators on the job
Hi all,?
thanks to those who filled in the doodle (Elizabeth Dubelman, Sharon, elana centor, Catherine Borgman-Arboleda, Dasha Mytareva, Ed Mitchell). Others are welcome - either use the zoom link below or email me. As we're making the plane while flying it, there's no tech steward or co-facilitator yet, so I'll juggle to start with and hope that the right attendees step forward at the beginning).? Meeting time and zoom place ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Format/Agenda ~~~~~~~~~~~~ I have made a google page with a very rough first proposal on the format/agenda and will return to it Friday morning. Please have a look in advance. Check the meeting purpose? Make some agenda suggestions? Feel free :) We will start the meeting with a short agenda-agreeing-conversation.? If you have any questions etc. please email me: lists@... Hurray! .. Nervous... :) best wishes Ed |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi MichelleBack in 2013 (!) we were doing online case clinics (similar to Troika/peer mentoring) in a fishbowl. I¡¯m sharing the guidelines I drew up back then (plus the visual that we shared to explain the process at the beginning ¡ ) I might dust them off and update them, if anyone uses them and gives me feedback on how they went. This was done in Adobe Connect, but the principles would be the same. Bev ?

Re: online fishbowl?
Hello Michelle, For folks unfamiliar with fishbowl, here's a on the Liberating Structures community of practice.? In essence, most people are watching a few people converse.? Audience members take turns going into the center to speak for a few turns of the conversation and then step back out to the observer area again. I'd recommend that the best way to do it is with a Zoom webinar account ($40/month) because you can promote people to panelist when they're "in the fishbowl".? Everyone else will have access to write in the chat and will be in listen-only mode. Or if you wanted to try it with a Zoom meeting ($14.99/month) and not a webinar, you could have people raise their hands to indicate that they'd like to go into the fishbowl and then they would wait for a private chat message from the facilitator indicating that they are in and can begin speaking. Re: online fishbowl?
I have used zoom for meetings. I have not yet done the fishbowl model online, only in person.? The problem with zoom is you only really have manual control over who is in which room, and only the host can do this (in most cases), so you end up being a switchboard operator.? One tool that I am looking at exploring that would make this easier is ? However,? it looks like they don't do recording. In addition, zoom?does not allow for recording of the breakout rooms without actually starting the recording from inside a room.? If you want to control the view of who is speaking and who can speak, zoom can be forced to do it, but it will take you driving a bunch of the control of who is speaking.? You can by hand mute and unmute people. I suspect it will be very laggy.? And so I think you will end up falling back to a moderated townhall?pattern instead of a free-er flowing fishbowl pattern. Re: Well, it's time for dialogue facilitators to act: together
Dear Lucas,? I know how you must be feeling, and this initiative is quite timely and needed.? Let me just share here the latest version of a paper that has a huge diffusion already (+40 million readers) and translated in all sorts of languages, although in the present moment it's in English that it's most needed - The hammer and the Dance, have you seen it?? ???? This could be a good backgrounder for the conversations next week, it has been widely acknowledged as the most comprehensive piece of content on the subject and the challenge is how to have US politicians acting?accordingly (it seems that Boris Johnson already read it, finally) Best?wishes?
