I will try to do Hector¡¯s quick option, and if that doesn¡¯t work will get back to you Maz!

In order to do it, make sure you have upgraded to the last zoom version.
Then go to settings in the desktop software. Choose Screen sharing option and make sure the option "Show zoom windows" is selected and they would now show.
I only recommend this when training other on how to use zoom as it is cumbersome when training or facilitating meetings.
Hope it helps!

if you have a dual screen share set up, in the settings you can activate dual screen, then ensure you have the one you would like to record (with the functionality showing) on the one you ¡¯screen share¡¯ during the recording.?

I can help you, can you give me a few days, say Monday, I can show you how to make a little video with the screen sharing tools visible, and break away rooms. I did it yesterday on my side, it¡¯s quite easy once you have a bit of a script of what you want to say, maybe you can already think of the 3 or 4 things you would like them to know about.

Ruth,

I have lead online conflict resolution with a global team that was on several continents!? Happy to talk with you about that experience sometime.

A big challenge is having 3 people in the conflict,? many of our models for conflict resolution are based on two parties in conflict.? ?As Simone said, its important to slow people down to hear each other, listen to their own needs and motivations.? I would add that setting collective intention,? having each person say whats at stake, for them, their relationship?with the other two, and whats at stake for the organization or community in the beginning?had help set the stage for the process.? ?I have an?intake questionnaire?that might be helpful to use to help people think?ahead of time about these things.

Aligning dialogue networks around COVID; a core team is getting together on April 7th

Hello fellow NCDD members, Open Space List members, Art of Hosting list members, and F4C-Response list members.

Notes from Today's Meeting
There was a mini-open space three hours ago to explore how the various dialogue networks could align to create collective impact during the COVID crisis.

Thank you to today's 18 inspiring participants!? .? We had a 25-minute opening with two Mad Tea questions in the chat.? We had two 15-minute discussion rounds, and a 5-minute closing.? Participants were able to set the topics and use the Law of Two Feet between breakout rooms.? A screenshot of the opening session is attached.? Much of the conversation was around online dialogue work in general and not specific to how we can align our dialogue networks.? That's OK; whatever happens is the only thing that can?happen.

Next Steps
Many people expressed interest in a core team getting together to plan an intentional and multi-hour open space on this topic about the COVID crisis.
I scheduled the next planning call for Tuesday, April 7th at 9am Pacific / 12pm Eastern / 4pm UTC.

The purpose of the next meeting (April 7th) is to co-create an invitation and to plan the outreach effort to the various networks.
If you'd like to join that planning call on April 7th please .

If you cannot make it, we will be sure to take good notes, and you'll certainly have an opportunity to participate in the bigger event where we invite the members of the various dialogue networks.

Pre-Work Before the April 7th Planning Meeting
And anyone can help with a little pre-work before the April 7th meeting... if you have any thoughts about what should go into the invitation or any other thoughts about what this event should or should not be, please add them to this or reply on this email list.

I'm not in charge.? I just want to see it happen.
Questions and suggestions are welcome!

Good Morning fellow NCDD members, Open Space List members, Art of Hosting list members, and F4C-Response list members.

This is an invitation for my American friends and colleagues.? I'm sharing it on these international lists, because there are probably efforts in other countries that are far ahead of us, and I hope that we can learn from each other.

INVITATION
In the next few weeks American leaders?are going to made?decisions that either increase risk for health or for our economy.? Much of the national "conversation" will be on TV with the American public as passive bystanders; they will be left without a voice on what happens to our health and to our economy.

I believe that we -- yes the people on these email lists -- have an unprecedented opportunity to actually help the public change the conversation.? As facilitators, we do not have scientific expertise (and neither does the average resident or citizen) but WE do have expertise in how to include scientific experts in our processes.

What is possible now?? What can we do together that rises to this tremendous challenge facing literally all of us right now?

I don't know what's possible, but I believe we can co-create something truly inspiring.? We don't need to use one method or tool; instead we need coordinate and align all of our diverse efforts to have greater impact.

To start some initial conversations among all of us,?.??

Re: being more creative in our online meetings #meetingdesign #events #facilitation

Hi,

Just to follow-up on this message from a couple of weeks ago, I have finished the initial experiment. We had a lot of fun, and learned a thing or two, too. I've written up a blog post with all the links to the videos and the slide deck here?

Also on that blog post you will find info about the continuation of the series through April, so if you thought it sounded interesting and weren't able to join in, feel free to join us during April (they happen daily at 3pm CET).

The purpose of these mini-online workshops (and they are workshops not webinars, participation is required) is (a) to be helpful during this stressful, chaotic time, (b) to introduce some activities which will make our virtual meeting more engaging, creative, and dare I say, fun.

Feel free to join us whenever you can.

Best Regards,
Stephanie

Thanks Marion,

I¡¯ll let you know how it goes when we get a chance to try out the Language Interpretation Module - I may do the Webinar add on plan - which is around 40GBP a month.

I haven¡¯t tried toasty - and ¡®a bit buggy¡¯ makes me quite hesitant to use with a bunch of humanitarians who are in need of calmness - so let me know I you have any better luck with.

And will check out interprefy as well. Do let me know how you get on if you try it?

Cheers,

Following with interest as we are keen to see how the functionality works, has anyone had positive feedback from Zoom, on their site this is needed as a prerequisite:

  • Business, Education, or Enterprise Account; or?Webinar add-on plan
  • Zoom Desktop Client
    • Windows:?4.5.3261.0825?or higher
    • macOS: 4.5.3261.0825?or higher
  • Zoom Mobile App
    • Android: 4.5.3261.0825 or higher
    • iOS: 4.5.0 (3261.0825) or higher

with a minimum host of 10 each with a monthly fee.?
how it works sounds really great.

Another one you could try and see whether there is an API for zoom and toasty.ai . We tested toasty this morning, a bit buggy but fabulous grouping and differentiation algorithms in the back end that might solve the how to cluster / group with those who are there (as opposed to those that registered but didn¡¯t manage to join).

hope this helps. there is another one called interprefy, but I struggle to reach them too, I think they are all inundated with requests and calls for help and input.?

if you find anything else on your side please share. thank you.

On 31 Mar 2020, at 12:56, Dirk Slater <dirk@...> wrote:

Hello,

I just subscribed to the list over the weekend and am already heartened by the amount of knowledge being shared here and am currently facing a major challenge which I¡¯m hoping I can get some advice/wisdom on.

Basically, I just want to know if people have been running sessions making use of translators/interpreters. If so what platforms have you used to support this? In particular getting different audio channels running with different languages for large group discussions and then organising small group breakouts based on participants languages?

The context:

I¡¯ve been co-hosting a series of workshops for the Red Cross/Red Crescent Society on sharing innovative responses across the national societies. A major goal is to get some real sharing across regions that won¡¯t be siloed by language. ?We¡¯ve been running a couple a week over the last few weeks and are getting an enormous response - upwards of 80 participants - and it¡¯s been a blessing to be able to break people up easily in small groups on the fly.

However, we ran into a couple of bumps on our last call when we tried to expand beyond English and also include Spanish Language speakers. We had nearly 130 participants and had a major struggle just getting them into breakout rooms where everyone spoke the same language - we had tried to get people to register in advance and then assign them breakout groups - but as people logged in, we realised many of the people that had pre-registered didn¡¯t show up and we had lots of people that hadn¡¯t registered wanting to participate. ?Our quick workaround was to get people to rename themselves with either EN or ES so we could manually organise the room quickly. ?

When we are in large group, we had translation happening while people were speaking, so one or two sentences, translation, then one or two sentences. ?This was okay - and there was some key moments where people from Italy, Iran, Columbia and Ecuador were able to share some critical advice - but not optimal in terms of energy and flow. ? We are eyeing Zoom¡¯s language interpretation feature - which apparently allows you to set up separate audio channels by language. ?It¡¯s an upgrade that we¡¯re thinking is probably worth the money (it¡¯s a 160GBP a month) but wondered if anyone has experience with it and could attest to its value (or not).

One thing that is working well is using a Google Doc with instructions for how to join/participation, what people should do in small groups and the agenda in multiple languages. ?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

- Dirk

@All its generally considered unsafe to pass around?WordDocuments given the history of viruses and attacks. PDFs are usually a bit safer. Some companies won't even let your computer download a Word doc. Would someone do us a?favor and resave as a PDF.

Re: Running Multi-Lingual Virtual Sessions

Timely!
Dirk let me introduce Liz Harris, ex ICRC person who ran all their interpreters for years and is one herself. Now by coincidence is consulting in a company I set up 18 years ago but sold last year - excellent team there (humanitarian/Uni risk mgt training and advisory basically, Safer Edge) She sources reliable people for this and is gold standard.?

echarris72@...

And - timely as i a doing similar for EISF (an NGO) in 2 week s an d need to get familiar with the live element of Zoom - client now wants live in the moment written interpretation rather than spoken...need to get my head around how to do that, sounds like tech rather than people but probs a person to, to correct the auto-errors?

Wil share back learning, for now am keen to learn

Hi Michelle!
In roundtable you ask what people are most interested in discussing, and the answer and rate.?
The algorithm then creates the groups (you may choose how many groups or how many people per group) based in their interests.

People receive in their devices which group to go, the topic and who else will be there.

Thoughtexchange is trying to create a way to combine this feature with Zoom breakout rooms. Can you imagine this?..;)

So far I plan to run the exchange, have a 10 min. break, while setting up manually the breakouts for each group.?

Would love to run an experiment with people interested..:)
