Re: Fun, celebratory, brief online activity
Ellen,
I'm thinking about something that is both collaborative and summative in nature. Two possibilities: - Collective drawing/creating activity: Get everyone on a whiteboard space or, if too challenging due to low bandwidth and lower tech comfort, on something like Google Slides. Give them a task to collectively create something - maybe a motto or sankalpa for their continuing work (text with visuals), maybe a coat-of-arms or logo that represents what they've collectively accomplished (visuals with text) - and ask that everyone make their literal mark on this product. You could break them into smaller groups (3-5) to ensure that there's at least one tech-comfortable person per group, and maybe you precede this breakout?with some individual brainstorming or creation time. It will likely be messy - but collaboration IS messy, and that's part of the beauty! The final product is shared as an artefact that they can print and put on a wall, make their screensaver, etc.
- Video montage: Using a platform like Tribute.co, ask everyone to contribute a short (10-20-second video) responding to a key question, such as, "What did you learn from this?" or "What is your main hope for the future of this collaboration?", etc.? Use the software to make the montage, and then share the resulting video live.
It sounds like a great initiative, and I'm sure you'll find a great way to celebrate and galvanize!

Hi everyone,?
Are you currently hosting zoom meetings? Did you know the latest version of zoom has new capabilities for break out rooms and presenting to name a few? Are you keen to practice the latest features in Zoom with a group of facilitators? If yes, please join a free event I created to do just that!?

Resources for a Virtual Conference (from the LD4 2020 Conference)
Thanks to everyone who has been sharing great resources here (love the infographic in the below resource!).?
I was recently part of a team who transformed a planned in-person event to a virtual conference (Linked Data in Libraries: ld42020.sched.com). To prepare to move our conference online, I began compiling various guides to planning
a virtual event, and have continued to update the list:??
That document also includes resources used by the LD4 conference organizing team, such as an event planning checklist and a list of tools we used.
I hope it will be helpful to others planning
virtual events.

Dear Friends,
We just wanted to share a blog some of us at ILRI wrote (Peter B, Michael V, Mirielle Ferrari and Iddo Dror) as part of the CGIAR Big Data Convention on Digital Dynamism. We focus on some of the lesson we have learned in transforming our face to face meeting
to go virtually. Its been a steep and exciting learning curve and took a real shift in thinking and ways of working.
It also includes a neat infographic we made.
Keen to continue hearing what others are learning on this !

Join the Online Facilitation Unconference (OFU), October 19¨C25
Hi,
As an avid lurker, let me start by saying that this list has been a treasure trove of tools tips, cool projects etc. Thanks, everyone!? ;-)
I wanted to share an event I¡¯m putting together. Maybe of interest to a few of you here...
The Online Facilitation Unconference (OFU)?is an annual learning exchange on ¡°the art and practice of facilitating in virtual environments.¡° Happening for the seventh time, the event will take place next week, October 19¨C25, once again alongside and as part of IAF¡¯s . OFU brings together practitioners with a variety of backgrounds, skills, and interests from all across the globe. The goal is to provide a fun space for people to share, learn, and connect around all things virtual facilitation.
While the unconference takes place later in the week (Thursday through Saturday), we will offer a few tech demos and other pre-scheduled warm-up sessions earlier in the week (Monday through Wednesday).
We have 250+ people registered from 40+ countries. The registration page has all the latest updates, including list of international partners and tech sponsors, glimpse at the warm-up program, and a few insights into who our participants are:
OFU is a not-for-profit effort. Tickets are very affordably priced. For anyone concerned about cost during these challenging times, our ¡°low or no income¡± option allows people to join at the price that works best for them (including for free), no questions asked. Around 13% of registrants have taken advantage of this opportunity so far. Please don¡¯t hesitate to use this option or share with others who might benefit. Thank you!
Please have a look. Hope to see you there!

Hello Sara,
You can test out Wonder (formerly Yotribe), SpatialChat, and WorkAdventure embedded into this .? Please feel free to test it out.
Each of these three tools has a fun way to move around the screen.? Some people may not know that the value of these tools is that when you are near someone you both pop up in the same video chat on?the screen.
We have seen facilitators embed SpatialChat into 1-3 of their breakout rooms on Qiqo to provide space for their participants to network between sessions.? Each SpatialChat room can hold 50 people meeting in many small groups.? SpatialChat costs $50/month.? We let facilitators use our SpatialChat rooms for $25 for any of their events.

? Hello dear facilitators!
I am inviting you to join in a movement and experiment to host people beyond polarizing dialogues in our communities!??? In Canada we currently have many divisive issues.?? I feel a deep desire to not end up further and further divided,? but to connect back with who we are as people and what we want to create for a better world.? I believe Canadians can be among world leaders in this regard.? If you feel the same way, please consider joining this journey!
The project is called the Spirit of Canada and our goal is to gather 50 facilitators from around the country to host heartfelt experiences in their communities, likely over zoom.? I would probably use one google doc, because getting people to switch around and write ends up being a mess.? People get lost.?
Zoom supports up to 50 break out rooms.
that would give you rooms of 6.?
Ideally, you would have the email addresses of everyone ahead of time, so that you could provide them we prepatory emails ahead of time, and so that you could bulk upload room assignments.?
Part of the goals would be to get people to meet other people. It would be great if you can to multiple sessions of going in to breakout rooms, work on a question for a bit, and then report out things. Part of the process would be to have people in the shared document editing the meeting notes. To get this to work, it can be very useful to have participants who have been engaged as note takers/facilitators etc in each room.?
Since I can't figure out how to get zoom to truely randomize the rooms, I have to change the size of the rooms to make different people end up in different rooms.?
But the ebb and flow from large group to small group and back with a standout is a pattern that has worked for me.
It is not clear to me that you want to do this as one big meeting with everyone there all the time, but rather I would wonder if having many small meetings which are then tied together in a string would be a useful way for people to get to know each other and to express thoughts.?
If you want interaction, you have to make it small group interaction (below 25, preferably below 8). If you want broadcast, then this does not matter and you can broadcast. I would consider how to do this as a series rather than one big event in 90 minutes.?

Re: A challenge/opportunity
It is not a given that this meeting had be used for anything. ?It is merely a possibility at this time. I agree with the need for conversation in smaller groups. ?I have worked with this group in the past, and have used breakout rooms extensively.
I am currently trying to decide if I should take advantage of the opportunity, and if so, how to best make use of the time.
There is a very restrictive budget for this project and I want to make sure I optimize opportunities and resources!
