the triac dimmer. The arrows indicate what moves as I dim the

lamps up

down. The overall wave doesn't shift ... but that vertical line
(indicated
by the arrows) ... shifts left and right.

As the area under the curve varies ... so does the intensity of the
lamps.
I thought a picture might settle this.
