Re: EMI interference #RELS

Get something appropriate to the power and voltage and put it on the incoming power lines. If that doesn't do the job, also filter outputs to the equipment. You can use copper tape, aluminum foil, monel metal shielding, or a grounded iron or screen box to shield the electronics, and reduce EMI into and out of the system. The second link also lists ferrites that can reduce EMI. If you've ever scavenged parts from an old printer, you may have also seen a donut-style ferrite, you could run the encoder cable through that a few times. None of it is guaranteed, and all of it can help.?

When I was stationed in Diyarbakir, Turkey, in the late 80's, everyone who had a TV, radio, or stereo also had something we called a "betty box." it was a copper screened enclosure to protect the electronics from Betty, which was a very large and powerful radar system used for deep space and ballistic missile tracking.? The sidebands would drown out a CD or tape playing, and blast your ears and speakers if you were listening to the radio.

Recently converted my lathe to VFD and I think? am getting EMI interference on my RELS as the z axis motor judders and misses some steps.? I thought it may be the encoder cable picking up and I grounded the outer sheath mesh but it didn't improve? matters. Should I filter the 240v line in to? the inverter as well. Any suggestions would be appreciated
