"Normally?" Gen had to think about it. "Normally I wear whatever I've got or whatever I can find.? Stuff that people have lost or thrown away. I never really had money to buy stuff before. I try to wear stuff that I see other people wearing, but it gets confusing sometimes. Some clothes seem to have meaning to them that I'm not aware of. Uniforms, for example. I've learned to avoid uniforms. Police, fire department, EMT's, even hospital workers.? People keep expecting me to know things that I don't know and wanting me to do things that I don't know how to do. So I try to look as ordinary and uninteresting as possible."?Looking at a pair of black jeans, Gen turned and showed them to Akira.? "Are these okay?? And how do you know if they'll fit?? Do you have to try them on?"
(Akira) "Well, you at least have figured out how to dress like others. That is a start. Good thing that we don't have to wear uniforms here. So, let's do this, you pick out stuff that you find interesting. We will put it all in this basket and then figure it out from there. And yes, there is a fitting room or rather a place we go and try on the clothes."
(Gen)?
"Are girls supposed to smell different from boys?" the androgyne asked, curious once again. "If something smells good on a boy, shouldn't it also smell good on a girl? Or does it have something to do with attraction? I have noticed that some boy smells induce attraction even though they're completely different from girl smells that also induce attraction." Without thinking, he leaned in close and sniffed at the other boy's neck. "Kind of like you do." Realizing he might be crossing some proximity no-no, he quickly backed up and looked apologetic. "Sorry.? I keep forgetting."
?
(Akira)
Akira chuckled, "of course girls are supposed to smell different from boys. All that sciency stuff and you were not taught about pheromones. Interesting." He giggled when Gen sniffed his neck, "that is fine. And I am not wearing anything like cologne or after shave. We all put off our own smells. Some are nice and some are not so nice. Some people just down right stink," he wrinkled his nose, then quickly added, "but, unless you are really close with that person, you don't tell them they stink. That is just rude."
He picked out a few clothes that he thought Gen would look nice in and placed them in the basket as they walked and talked and looked at different clothing items.
