John Wood was a surveyor and mapmaker who produced detailed town plans for many Scottish English and Welsh town.
He died 2 Jul 1847 while living in Towe Street, Portobello, Edinburgh, he was buried on 5 Jul 1847 in St Cuthbert church.
He is reported to have been born in North Yorkshire about 1780, trained there and when he married, moved to Edinburgh where he apparently lived for the rest of his life. (source: )
