Rivarossi Turntable


 

And in another development, came home from the LHS with an ancient surface mount
powered turntable. It was just too neat to pass up, and for the price I can't go to the movies, if you count the popcorn.
Anybody have any experience with these? It's going to be a job figuring it out as the instructions are all in Itailian! I think it's telling me I can turn anything up to the size of the 2-8-8-2. Looks like it turns the power on on the stall tracks as it lines up with them.
Don't know where I'm going to put it, but what a great excuse for an expanded engine terminal. I may just get that transfer table I always wanted too.

I'd try typing some of those instructions into Google Translate. You might get something usable out of it. Either that or take them to a good Italian restaurant.

Henry, it can accommodate their Y6b. There's a pin on the pilot (on the early versions at least) you pull to lift up the lead truck.



I know there was at least one UP turntable that the Big Boys overhung, but I don't think they needed to lift up their feet.

Thanks guys, that helps alot. ?Knew the lead truck lifted up on the 2-8-8-2, but never knew why. ?Makes sense now.

don't think they needed to lift up their feet.

If memory serves me right there was a "block" placed under the lead truck to raise it enough to allow the TT to turn. Might be a photo of this someplace if one wishes to look.

FYI ? There are photos in the Archives at Railpictures.net that show ATSF Texas types with a tender truck jacked up to clear ? PRR's Texas types weren't as big . Fun photo . And yes , those 5000s were huge ! Henry

Going back a long, long way in the memory banks here:
When they got the bigger engines, to avoid having to rebuild the table and pit, they had a jack for the rear set(s) of wheels on the tender.
You'd never be able to get the lead trucks in the air with the equalized weight they support, again, if I recall.
