A Whack of stuff for sale...

Hey Guys:

I'm am seriously paring down my collection of Vintage model trains. I'm in Canada but will be travelling to the states next week to visit my Brother and will ship stuff people want at that time. If you don't know me, well I haven't been on here in some time I'm pretty sure Nelson or Tony Lucio or Sean can vouch for my integrity....

I gave a pristine Athearn 1960 or 61 RDC set box that's spoken for I believe.

Also a Mantua 8 Ball unassembled. It appears as though it never was....

Barr-Nixon Switcher kit

Athearn Hustlers, NOS with or without Ernst Gearing kits.

MDC 0-6-0 Switchers, I think I have three, none fully assembled.

Varney Pullmman kit

Ambroid kits....

I'm going to create a folder to sell this stuff and add pictures as I go....

I will also be making a trip again in October and will do the same thing...

I'll make a document up in pdf so anyone can look at what's there. I'll replace it as things are sold or I find them....

Everything I ship will go in fixed rate USPS boxes... small or Medium normally.

Best,
Gareth

A few years ago, a person I worked with asked me if I wanted a box of "old trains" he had. He had no use for them, so I took them. I the box was a large batch of Varney loco's in various states of repair. I put them away for a "SHORT"???? time. A few days ago I was going through the box and in the bottom was a Varney Yellowstone in pieces and a S.P. AC-12 Cab Forward. The boiler looks like the Yellowstone but was modified to S.P. style. One of the drive frames was extended to the rear / tender. The cab is cast but the front again changed to S.P.? Both drive units are stamped Varney. I was wondering if anybody anything about this unit. The person who gave the box to me was Rex Varney. If and when I can get my camera to work with this computer, I will take photos of this unit. Thanks. Pete De Beers

And what was the other thing I forgot ? And you are ? They didn't make many of them , and yes the parts were "standard" Mantua production pieces ! Henry H.

Ok this might be the first sign my memory is failing. I loved Mantua
Steam locos and kits growing up some (blank) years ago. My Wife got
me a Mantua 2-10-0. I never herd of this model. There was a RMC
artical to kitbash one and I did that(sorry I sold it). This one
looks to have a flywheel on the back of the motor. Seems like all standard Mantua parts and tender. Can anyone give a history and is
this real Mantua or after market knock off? Memory is the second thing
that goes.....I forgot what the first was....Paul G. in Fl

Paul-
?
Yes it is real!? In later years Mantua started combining parts into new locos like the Berkshire and the Decapod.

Re: Mantua 2-10-0 ?

Mantua did produce a 2-10-0 decapod kit for a brief time. The URL for the first page of a circa 1980 decapod instruction sheet is

Go to the HOSeeker web site under Literature - Mantua - Instructions/Part Numbers - Steam Engines - 2-10-0 Decapod 1980 for the remainder of the instructions.

Re: Mantua 2-10-0 ?

Yeah, it's legit.? I remember seeing ads for this 'way back when, and more recently(1980s?) too. Usually in RMC and/or MR. Check your way back issues...

I'm afraid so on that price when it's done. ??I wont tell the wife if you don't!?I'm sorry, but I just can't not fiddle with them, and once you know how to wring the kinks out of them, they really are quite dependable!

And thanks to everyone for the kind words on this thread!

So Model Power has finally released some Mantua stuff?

Any good? Did they correct the wheel contours(or am I 'way behind the times...)?

Beautiful, Karl! The top-mounted headlight on its own changes the whole look. Might end up heavy enough to be a frog buster.
