? ? ?I have had my eye on that one. That chassis is good for an N2 but not the boiler. Bowser calls it an N2 but they adapted their USRA light 4-8-2 boiler for that model. The N2 was a USRA Heavy 2-10-2. I have a Cary USRA Heavy 4-8-2 boiler that would look really good on that chassis! Haven't decided to try for it yet since there are parts I don't want. Sean Naylor has a Cary N2a up for bids on the bay ?? Sean's train shop ?? Not a plug , but a notice ? He's a member here and a friend ?? I'd try that one but I have to be careful with our money ? Lots of Hospital bills !! Maybe an almost B&O big six ?? ? ? ? Henry |
Bowser Parts
Henry, I1 and A5 were very affordable. As for the M1s, I've been gradually collecting pieces for quite some time. I already had the two Cary M1a boilers and two older Bowser 4-8-2 chassis that will be used for them. Many detail parts need to be acquired, though. Also have one recent Bowser 4-8-2 chassis that I am going to build into the M1. I got impatient waiting for parts to show up on eBay so I just bought a good bit of what I need for the M1 directly from Bowser. They still have just about everything in stock but their website is slightly hard to navigate because some of the parts are listed as "M1" and others as "M-1" even though they are for the same loco. Not to be confused with the "M1A" or "M1B." Yeesh! So I'm buying parts gradually. Yes, in the long run, I'll be paying more in shipping but I can get things when I want and keep within a monthly budget.

? ? I've been finding super good deals. The Bowser I1 was $40 plus shipping. The A5 I got at a hobby shop for $25. Both were already built, no boxes.? ? ? Funny how, with the ending of steam locos by Bowser, some people are asking ridiculously high prices for Bowser stuff...like a T1 kit I saw for $700!! While, because of the sound equipped locos available, other people are dumping them for next to nothing! Jeff jppellas@... -----Original Message-----

Re: magazine give-away
Not sure where you reside and what your actual experience has been. Around here, NO library wants them, no stores want them, noBODY wants them filling their garage, and lordhavemercy if you think you can sell them at a swap meet. I remember when I dumped all of my Garden Railways mags....took them to a club meet...GAVE them away to whoever wanted any of them...and one guy wanted a lot....found him at the end of the hall trying to sell my magazines at his table for a buck apiece. Nobody bought any...and at the end of the meet, he walked out and left them all sitting on his table, and we pitched them from that point. I have some I have kept...generally older than 1950. But just some. My MR and RMC and Trains?went out in the recycle bin (over the course of a month) several years ago. -----Original Message----- |

Justin, I remember when you posted about your N1. I was jealous! I also have a running I1 chassis ready to go. It is a Penn Line factory built one. After living out of boxes for many years and two moves in the past 9 months, I have (finally) settled in a house where a layout will be possible (after a small addition).?

Re: magazine give-away
I think the magazines would be helpful to someone starting out in the hobby. BTW, instead of bring the magazines to the dump, inquire whether the "Friends" of your local public library accept magazines for re-sale to the public. They are sold at a nominal price 10 or 25 cents and could serve to bring some new?folks into the hobby as well as help your library financially. If "your" public library does not do this, look around and you'll find one whose "Friends" do.? |

BTW, I suggest before you take magazines to a dump, ?that you inquire whether the "friends" of your local public library accept magazines for re-sale to the public. They are sold for a nominal fee, like 10 or 25 cents and might bring some new folks into the hobby as well as raise some money for the library. Cary N1
Hi Group! I finally was able to land the long sought after Cary Loco Works PRR N1 2-10-2 shell. It has no other parts besides the frame extension ...but that is a useful part to have! Best of all, after years of looking, I got it for the low-low price of $6.50 as part of a larger lot. The rest of the parts shouldn't be difficult to find except for the huge air tank on the front. Clearly will have to make that. Anyway, another piece to cross off the ol' bucket list.

Re: magazine give-away
Good luck with that. Let us know how it works out...maybe you will find the key to giving these away. Month ago I helped load 60 years of BOUND MR into the back of a pickup, and went to the dump. Next load, almost every CTT, and same for OGR....and dump. Mine went to the dump a couple of years ago. -----Original Message----- |
magazine give-away
I'm downsizing and so have several hundred model railroad magazines to dispose of. . MR, MRC, MT, etc. OK condition. Some have lost their covers. I got lots of ideas and pleasure from reading these. Is there a modeler in southern California who would like these? I'm in Claremont far east Los Angeles County). |
