Substitutions steam chests to G5
I've got 2 items that will work so far a K4 casting and an E6 casting . Both look to be the same layout . Should fit . By the By ? There is an Austrian G5 4-6-0 on ebay . Rough but can be restored ?? Re: Model Die Casting E6s 4-4-2 By Way of a 2-6-2 Prairie
There don't appear to be any dog houses listed as "Bowser" parts but there are three types listed under the Selley trade name on the Bowser retail site: A wood sided, a metal sheathed and an all metal version. I've never seen any of the Selley doghouses and they don't have pix of them so can't say what you'd be getting. There are several kinds of backup lites listed.

Model Die Casting E6s 4-4-2 By Way of a 2-6-2 Prairie
Hello list, I attached a shot of this Model Die Casting PRR E6s Atlantic to this email. ?The engine did not start out as an Atlantic kit, but began life as an MDC PRR 2-6-2 Prairie. ? ? In March, I picked up a nicely assembled Model Die Casting PRR 2-6-2 Prairie. ?At the same time, I picked up a used, but serviceable MDC Santa Fe 4-4-2 Atlantic. ?I already had a Model Die Casting PRR Prairie, and I was thinking this weekend about how the new Prairie, numbered 1067 (which was the second number for PRR's first E6s Atlantic) might just be better off as an Atlantic. ? I had a Model Die Casting PRR Atlantic chassis conveniently available (modified with a Bowser lead truck), so I disassembled the new (to me) PRR Prairie and started checking fit. ?I did drill and tap for an extra screw to secure the cylinder block, but I didn't need to do much else as I swapped parts around. ?Everything went well, and I did a basic decoder installation (motor control only no lights) to get it running on my little layout. ?As it stands, the engine runs nicely, and I may enjoy it for a bit before taking it apart to paint the chassis. ? Convincing the Santa Fe Atlantic to become a Prairie may take a bit longer, but it should be another fun project. ? Doug Kisala |
G5s Cylinder Block
Henry, list, I changed the subject line to better reflect your current search. ? My 16th edition Bowser catalog shows the G5s cylinder block is Bowser part 8165. ? It looks like Bowser is out of those, but I checked my stash of unbuilt kits. ?The E6s and G5s cylinder blocks look identical to my eyes. ? Bowser does have the E6s cylinder block in stock on their website; it shows up as part 1-8130. Doug Kisala From: "huligin62@... [yardbirdtrains]" To: yardbirdtrains@... Re: Body bolsters for a Mantua extruded aluminum 74' passenger car
I found an old, plastic 6-wheel pasenger truck having a bolster almost the right height, with almost the same diameter boss in the center, so I sacrificed the truck, added a washer to increase the thickness, and decided that the boss was close enough to make a substitute. It works. But if I do find an original Mantua body bolster, I'll use it. Thanks, guys, Regards, Walter On Sun, Jul 16, 2017 at 12:27 PM, Charles Peck lnnrr152@... Re: G5 pilot ??? Casting spam ?
Henry, list, Bowser's website (www.bowserorders.com) lists the G5s pilot (part 816) as being in stock. ? Their retail site can be tricky to navigate, and the G5s pilot shows up as part 1-816. Not all PRR passenger engines got backup lights, but at least some of the G5s engines did. ?The link below shows several LIRR and PRR G5s engines with backup headlights. ? Since no replacement OEM G5 pilot is available [?] what would be a good fix ?? ?Where PRR passenger locos given rear back up headlights ?? ?I'm up to my neck in ''projects'' . Bowser PRR , English K11 and H5s , Casey and Old Ladies ??? ? ?Henry?

Re: Body bolsters for a Mantua extruded aluminum 74' passenger car
I would NOT use balsa for anything that was not intended to go airborne. Too light and weak. If you choose to use wood, use a harder wood such as pine, poplar or basswood. Chuck Peck On Sun, Jul 16, 2017 at 9:21 AM, huligin62@... [yardbirdtrains] <yardbirdtrains@...> wrote:

Body bolsters for a Mantua extruded aluminum 74' passenger car
I seem to have "lost" one of the 2 body bolsters from a Mantua extruded aluminum 74' passenger cars (the older cars, lit by only one light bulb in a plastic diffuser, not the 2 small bulbs strapped to the floor). Does anyone have such a body bolster to spare?? Thanks, Walter |
Re: Air Brake cylinders ?
Yeah, that's the part number I mentioned early on. However, the 2-8-0's don't show that part in the drawings, but do in the parts list. I have three 2-8-0's, none have those parts. -----Original Message----- |
Re: Air Brake cylinders ?
I thought he was looking for cylinders for the 4-6-0, as in, factory supplied. There are none at the bottom of the firebox, on the 2-8-0 or 4-6-0, near as I can tell. So, he's looking for aftermarket? -----Original Message----- |
