First, I used Wash-away paint remover to get rid of the Cascade green,
which actually went pretty quickly. I used a toothbrush to clean paint out
of the crevices, then I washed the model with dish soap and let it sit for
a few days.

Next, I sprayed it with Testor's silver spray paint. I let it sit for a
while and then hit it again. Then, I masked the sides off and sprayed the
red nose, waiting a while between first and second doses. I let that dry
overnight last night and masked the red off and this morning I sprayed
black (don't have a photo yet). This afternoon when I get home I'll hit it
along a couple spots I can already see I missed, I wanted to let what was

I'll probably pick up a can of dullcote and hit it with that once the paint

If your LHS can get it for you, I highly recommend ?Tamiya masking tape. Its about 2 bucks a roll (6mm x 18m) and I've had minimal to zero bleed with it. It also bends nicely if your stripe needs to curve. I still use the blue painters tape for large areas, just the Tamiya for the edges.

Try it, you'll like it!

Paul, thanks for the tip.

Here's the rest, I masked off the red and then painted the black, I gave it a couple of sprays over the course of a warm day. I think it turned out pretty well, for my first time doing this. Although, next time I am going to use blue, green masking tape because there was a bit of bleed-under when I did the red.

But, I have two more E units to paint up Amtrak, so I'll have a chance to apply what I learned from this one. I also have some E7's that I need to figure out what to do with, as well as about a layout's worth of track to spray paint brown before I can start on the yard for it. I can send pictures for that too if anyone's interested.

I'm having fun for sure!

That 4-4-0 was built by Baldwin in 1919 for the Red River and Gulf RR, close to being one of the last 4-4-0's built in the US. The loco ran for a number of years around Stone Mountain along with a similar loco, sort of recreating the "Great Locomotive Chase".

I may get a little time to work on the layout this weekend, but Saturday afternoon, we go to my daughter's house. Our granddaughter is graduating high school and we have a party. Last weekend, we went to Atlanta for a family visit, but I did get a few hours off and went to the Southeastern Railway Museum in Duluth. I took lots of photos, including some very up close and personal photos of the B-End details of a couple hoppers. they had a 4-4-0 there with PISTON rod valves and what looked like Walschaert valve gear. the darnedest thing I ever did see. I expected slide valves and no external valve gear for a 4-4-0. I must assume this was retrofitted by a previous owner and did not come from the factory this way.

Hi All!

I wanted t share a link of a little video I shot on Tuesday. This is the first time there has been a running engine in my 1969 fastback Mustang since I purchased it as a bare shell in 1997. If I were to guess, I would say the car has not been on the road in over 20 years!! The original '69 351 Windsor really sounds great! I can not wait to get in it and actually drive it!!!?

?
Today, the fuel pump was replaced and now it is running constant and unassisted on it's own! (other than initially manually manipulating the choke.)

Re: off topic but wanted to share anyway...

Nice job.Driving a car for the first time after having it not running is a lot of fun.
A word from the wise(ok stupid)PUT plenty of gas in it,I ran out while test driving a 63 vette that I bought with blown motor and a milk crate for an interior,no gauges or steering column, luckily I had a 427 block to build. It started out strong and I ran out of gas a mile later.
