Strange black band, but not a defective display

Strange situation om my 847 . I've a black semicircle band over the satellite write over the display, mybe is not a defective display, or at least seems.
Seeing through the glass with a lamp and a lens I was able to see that the satellite tacking sign is still present.
Question: Someone has disassembled the frontal and has idea on what could be, it seems a black tape. 73 de In3aqk

Re: WTB: Yaesu FT847

I have one for sale in clean and perfect working order minus one issue, the subtune rotary encoder has a spot where it sometimes will drop a few counts.
This appears to be a common issue with them as they age (these radios are over 20 years old now), replacing the encoder fixes that.
It will come in the original box with all documents, hand mic and power cord.
Message me direct with an offer and we can discuss.

There is a serial number where the fix was placed into production.? Prior to that, one could command the rig but not get data back (similar to the 736R).? I don't recall the exact details, but I don't believe it is a fix one can apply later, though there's a Reddit article that suggests otherwise. Not a simple fix, apparently.

Hi John,

I don't have one to offer, but you might want to note whether you need one with the serial port fix for full remote control (e.g. for computer control of Doppler when operating satellites).

Re: FT-847 CAT Control Problem

the CAT on one of mine works bidirectional with every software I have tried using whatever nullmodem cable and either? a USB to Serial thingy or a hardware port
remember, unless you changed it in the radio the baud rate is 57,600

my other 847 has a issue with either the multiplexer chip or the line from the CPU is dead
I have spent time with that, but its pretty deep surgery
I should revisit that

Good evening!
I have an FT-847 that I have had a good while and only used it on VHF (6 and 2 meters mostly, some satellite). The transmit audio sounds FB on upper sideband, but on lower, (75 meters) it sounds terrible.?
I have tried to see how to validate the carrier frequency for LSB, but not finding a setting or trimmer that affects the frequency in any way on either sideband.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Victor

OK The SSB part and FM Path are completely different, There are two PLL’s for upper and low side band, I suspect you LSB PLL is off frequency or out of lock, they both go off to the Balanced modulator:

No problem, remember its for the PSTRotator software but should at least give some bidirectional activity and eliminate cable ot software issues.

Greetings All
While I am trying to get my 847 setup for digital operations such as FT8, I have come across a CAT control problem.
My rig is from 1990, serial 0M45xxxx so it shouldn't have any difficulties. I tried a CPU reset with no change.
I can get the FT847UNI drivers working in JTDX, but not the Bi-Directional driver.
While this might be the bare minimum necessary for digital operation, I would like to get the OmniRig drivers working so that I can get my logging program (Log4OMv2) working alongside another app to follow the freq.
I know there is a HamLib option in Log4OM, but I can't get that to work (it is native in JTDX) so I am wondering...

Is there anyone who has their 847 working with bi-directional CAT control? If so, what cables are you using with what software?
