70Mhz

Hi everyone,

I have owned my FT847 for a very long time, maybe 20 years. It is a UK version that has usually worked on 70Mhz, but has stopped putting any power out recently. The radio goes into TX on 4m, but does not put any power out (measured on a Bird meter so there may be mW.). The radio has the L5006 mod from??and worked fine for 10 years or more.

The radio works fine on 50MHz so I know the PA stages are not kaput. I have done a factory reset several times and do not know what to look at next. Can anyone give me any clues?

Thanks
Steve, M0BPQ

I believe you buy them on EBay. ?I bought a sub tune encoder for my 847 there a year ago....... ?

?

Early model 847’s did not have bidirectional CAT control by design from yaesu and therefore could not communicate with CAT software.? YAESU realized this issue and later model 847’s were provided with bidirectional CAT and yaesu offered a mod upgrade for free (at the time).? If you have bidirectional CAT, all you need for connectivity is a null modem serial cable from your computer to the radio.? You will need a usb to serial adapter if your computer does not have native serial ports.? When buying this adapter make sure that it is not one of the cheap Chinese made which will not work.? Once you have all this, any CAT control software will allow you to connect with the radio and control the radio.

?

Hope this helps.

Subject: [YaesuFT847] CAT CONTROL Software???

Who is using CAT CONTROL and what is the best software for controlling the FT-847? I am about to delve into CAT CONTROL of my FT-847...I have had this rig for many years but never have pursued SOFTWARE to control it.
Thus, I am wide open to what the best way to go is. HELP appreciated. Rather than just use a standard Null? SERIAL Cable, I did order the RT Systems cable.

Re: CAT CONTROL Software???

I use the RT Systems programming cable (Windows 10) which also works for CAT control using SatPC32. You have to set Menu #37 to 9600 bps for SatPC32 to work. You have to reset Menu #37 to 19200bps ( I think it was) for the programming software to work. For rotor control (Az only) I use PST Rotator on an old XP computer.

I use my FT-847 for satellite exclusively.? I use CAT control for automatic doppler shift frequency control.? I use PSTRotator software for that and Omni-Rig software as well.

Re: Null cable

Hal I am talking about a straight through to null adapter.? It plugs into the radio's com port and the standard serial cable plugs into it?

There is a mod somewhere
I saw that you can change the comm port but the $3.00 adapter is a cheaper easier option.

Let me know if they have a fix for the early model, I have one too! Thank You!

Good morning
? ? ? ? ? ?I found out why I couldn’t get commander or hrd to work on my 847. I purchased an early model and it didn’t allow two way cat control. They apparently did offer a firmware upgrade that I didn’t find out about until now.

I have reached out to Yaesu to see if I can do the firmware myself or if they still do it.

Re: Commander from dx suites

I have the cable from RT systems to program and read the radio but I can not get HRD to connect to it. I was also unable to get DX labs to hook up either. Has to be something in the settings on the radio.

Re: Commander from dx suites

Gerald,?
DxLab's can control the freq, volume, and a couple other things and that's about it.? If you do some digging there is a free version of HRD (v5.24) floating around that WILL do SAT Mode and just about everything else.

If you go RTSystems, they have a USB to Serial as a null modem. It costs USD$30.

That what I am using on my 847. You can also get the programming software from them as well.

Enjoy

Re: Commander from dx suites

Hi Sandor,

I received the port adapter and also the cable from the vendor of the radio, who reports he had it working before he mailed it to me.

I believe, since it was functional, it must be a null modem cable.

Thanks

I, too, will be interested in how well you make?out, Gerry.
