Re: CAT - Control - Yet another post

Hi Ravi, you are right about the serial number coding. Only, a number starting with a "4" is not older than one starting with an "8" as the production started in 1998 and "8" therefore was the first production year. So, the sequence is (199)8,(199)9,(200)0,(200)1,(200)2,(200)3,(200)4 and finally the year 2005. Maybe it is easier to first get the serial data working with a simple RS232 link to a normal PC running WSJT-X or something. If that works, you can tackle the RigPi problem with more confidence. I've used a Serial to USB cable to connect the rig to the Raspberry Pi and the laptop. In both cases, the 'CAT' comes up on the rig, but programs fail to complete the connection. The Serial number that I made reference to was from a post: "...Yaesu appears to use the following format for serial numbers on their amateur products: Year of manufacture-Month of manufacture-Production Run-Individual Unit number, where the month of manufacture is offset by 2, so "C" means January, "D" means February, "E" means March, and so forth. Example: 8G051234 = 1998, May (fifth month, or "G"), Production Run 05, unit #1234 in this run. One key serial number range is 8G05. This seems to be the point at which Yaesu had corrected the bi-directional CAT issue and made some other improvements. This version was made in May 1998. Later serial numbers (e.g., 8L09nnnn) all seem to have incorporated the earlier improvements plus new ones...." That would mean that the port was unidirectional prior to this, my serial number is "4M950027", hence I was wondering what data is that the rig was sending back to the CommsTest program when tuning across a band. Thanks. Ravi On Thu, 10 Feb 2022 at 00:45, on6ab <bruno.beckers@...> wrote:

Hi Ravi, What is there unfortunate about your serial number? As far as I can tell, your FT847 is a november 2004 model which makes it one of the last ones (2005) produced. 73, Bruno Op do 10 feb. 2022 om 00:04 schreef Ravi Miranda <ravimiranda@...>: Hi,? |

开云体育I know that this is an obvious question, but are you using a null modem cable to connect from the PC to radio? I've been using my Ft-847 for 2-3 years with a null modem cable on HRD and have had no problems. I let the computer boot up, turn on the radio, then open HRD. No problem. Good luck. CAT - Control - Yet another post
Hi,?
I have been trying to connect my FT-847 to my RigPi. After a few unsuccessful attempts (many), I then tried to use flrig via a USB (CH340), CAT-847, FTBCAT and FTBASICMMO. In some cases, the 'CAT' symbol appeared on the rig, but the radio failed to connect. I've read the posts on the serial number saga and unfortunately my serial number is 4M950027.? Anyway, while trying out the programs above, I found something called CommsTester and this allowed me to 'see' the incoming data while tuning the rig. This is what is see: CommTest Version 1.1.8

I haven't been able to decode the data yet, but would this kind of patch work? See? See:?Mon Jun 9 23:09:52 CDT 2014 [CC-USB232?] Yaesu have just mentioned that they do not support the firmware update at present. Are there any other avenues open for me? Many thanks Ravi |

Hi Frank I used the TC1001 adjustment several years ago.? No big deal once you find TC1001.? I my case I was off about 1700 hz on 432.? Got it alot close but without the dropper test equipment, can't say exactly. Couple of hints.? Make sure the Ft847 is fully warned up as there is a slight drift from a cold start.? Can't remember exactly where the TC control is located but remember you remove the bottom cover to access.? Think it near the front, but not sure.? 73, Tom K6EU On Sun, Jan 30, 2022 at 1:41 PM Frank <hb9oab@...> wrote: Has anyone tried the "simple" tips of the TC1001 described? |
60 Meter Transmit Mod Info Wanted
Hi folks, I just found this group and am a newbie to it.
I have owned an FT-847 since new from 1999 and would like to know how to open the transmit for 60 Meters. As you know, 60 M was unavailable for use back then unless you were authorized for MARS/CAP, but the FCC has opened up this 5 MHz band in 2003 or 2004 for amateur use per the band plan. I have seen several mods that seem different from each other. Does anyone have a known reliable mod for a U.S. FT-847? Thanks in advance, Mark/AE1MS |

Yes 250Hz are few but still too many ...
Has anyone used the system described here or knows if it can produce problems, if there are other solutions or if this is the solution?
?
It doesn't seem that complicated with the right gear. I have read about this solution on several sites, but before doing so I ask for more information. 73 |

开云体育Your FT-847 is actually in spec.? Per the manual the frequency accuracy for the 847 is at best 2 PPM.? That translates to +/- 870 Hz at the center of the 70cm band, which is 435 MHz.? ?If you want to try and reduce the frequency error you will have to adjust the Reference Oscillator, which will take a very accurate frequency counter that can resolve down to 1 Hz at the reference frequency of 45.250 MHz.? An alternate method would be to Zero Beat the Reference Oscillator against WWV, but that might be a little less accurate. ? ? From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Frank ? HI all
With the FT847 in VHF and UHF I have verified that they are off frequency of + 250Hz. Does anyone know where in the radio I find and how can I correctly calibrate the right frequency? 73 |
Re: Kuhne QH40A crystal heater problem

Hi, as stated before, a crystal, manufactured to be used at room temperature is not very well suited to put in an oven. Below you see a typical stability range of such a crystal. If you put this crystal in an oven at 40 degrees, you're trying to keep it stable at a non-stable temperature. Not exactly a smart thing to do. Crystals to put in a 40 degrees oven are MADE for this, they will show the flat part of the curve at 40 degrees, not at 20 degrees. Op wo 5 jan. 2022 om 17:47 schreef k9wkj <k9wkjham@...>:

keeps the swing down to pretty low numbers I made a homebrew crystal heater for my TEN-TEC 526 out of a little metal clip and a 40C Positive Temperature Coefficient Thermistor Amphenol #?YQS5745PTO? ?it has a 3C temp swing around 43C just did not find that necessary on the 847 maybe if one was driving a transverter it might require more help |
Re: S9 noise on HF with or without antenna
开云体育Hi Bill and thanks for the reply. I had a little nose inside and injected a smallish signal and found that there was stray RF on the IF from the G4HUP PAT board I fitted many years ago.?? I feel a bit silly now as the PAT board has worked flawlessly but for some reason I was getting some IMD and broadcast FM from the 3m band. I really love my FT847 and I have a spare (A2 US Import and C2 UK specifications) and I really don’t want to see them damaged. So I’ve taken out both PAT board (IF tap and 2nd receiver) and they are now in the trash. The main problem is the IF was being overloaded even though I was using the 2nd receiver PAT board and not the IF tap for Panadapter. ? Thanks for the heads up but this is resolved and I doubt I will be re-visiting the PAN adapter anytime soon. De Spence M0STO? Sent while portable! please excuse typos. 开云体育Not sure of the FT847, but does it have a function or ability to turn off the AGC ? ? From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Spence M0STO via groups.io ? Dear Group, I have a bit of a strange question. My FT847 has nothing but S9 of noise on HF (I work mostly satellite these days so only just noticed it). I tried all bands but seem to be blighted with an S9 signal with or without the antenna connected. The other issue is when I tune to a strong AM station in the lower broadcast band 2.2mhz seemed to be the strongest +50db on AM but the audio is dreadful and sounds splattered, clipped and inaudiable. I have been using a passive loop on HF and I’m fearing DC or a strong signal has landed in the front end and done damage.? -- Bill, K2WH |
