Re: 158 members
Well, happy for now, no problems. It isn't used all that much but will get a good amount of workout come Springtime when I start learning Satellite ops. 73, Richard AG5M On Tuesday, November 2, 2021, 07:14:47 AM PDT, Rob <g4ujs@...> wrote: This list has 158 members....and super quiet, I guess 158 people totally happy with their FT-847's I am 73 de Rob G4UJS |

开云体育Sorry, I misunderstood. My radio has voice, not vox. At least they were thinking of White Caners. Douglas

开云体育I bought Ft-847 from a gentleman in New Brunswick about 4 years ago. It had a couple of small issues. AF/RF shaft was bent, found an original on ebay. Memory backup battery was replaced with a coin battery holder and a regular 2032 batt. Also had a small problem with power flickering. Rebuilt the plug from the power supply. I primarily use for bouncing off the ISS, when they are turned on, HI HI. It came with vox. Very happy Douglas Richards VE3FFR? On 11/2/2021 11:32 AM, Dennis Surek via

What's better than a rig that does everything ? Can't figure out why Yaesu didn't spend another 25 cents and put in VOX. Wished the sub-VFO tuned faster when you need it. Like others here, I was unable to get the audio into the xmit packet output. With the recent discussion here, I should finally be able to get that working. Re: 158 members
Bought mine in the 90's and use it regularly mainly for 6 and 2 Meter SSB and WSJT-X. It has had very few problems over the years. Lost memories and the memory switch?is goofy. Still a good? HF back up rig and I take it into the field annually for Field Day.....I might have replaced?it if the IC-970 would have had 6 meters but since it doesn't the FT-847 remains my GO TO for 6 and 2. Re: Need Advice Getting into Satellite Operations
开云体育Hi JoeI have been using the 847 for over a year and it has worked very well for me. I do have rotatable antennas but I talk to many hams using the egg eaters with good success. I would suggest that you do use some form of computer tracking program if only for the Doppler corrections. It will save you endless headaches getting started. I have used SatPc32 and use it when I am roving with a handheld antenna… it gives you an extra hand when you do t have to worry about timing! Good luck and see you soon on the birds!? 73 Jeff VE3KY? 开云体育I’ve been using an 847 on satellite for about 4 years with excellent results! Good luck and feel free to email me via my QRZ page email for any detailed questions…. In my opinion, the egg beaters are expensive from M2, and best generally for only higher passes. ?But, several sat operators use them with good results. ?Good luck! Joe. KE9AJ? Hi Richard, Hope to hear you on the satellites soon!? They are a lot of fun. Yes, the FT847 is still a good satellite radio. It does full duplex and has decent power levels on both 2m and 70cm.? Hears good on both bands as well.? I have a FT847 and still have good luck on the satellites with it.? The eggbeater antennas should work well also.? I have talked with quite a few operators on the satellites who are using eggbeaters. One good email list for satellite operations is the Amsat-BB list.? You can learn more about it at: 73 John AF5CC On Fri, Oct 15, 2021 at 1:08 PM Richard AG5M via <ag5m=[email protected]> wrote: Hello.? For a long time I have wanted to get into satellites.? Need Advice Getting into Satellite Operations
Hello.? For a long time I have wanted to get into satellites.? That will change next spring.? A few questions:
Question 1:? I have a Yaesu FT-847.? Is that still a very good radio to begin learning satellite operation?? To get my feet wet, so to speak. Question 2.? I am thinking of using the M2 Egg Beater antenna system, no rotor and tracking software to mess with, keeping things simple to begin with.? Is the M2 Egg Beater antenna system really good for a newbie to start out with for satellite operation?? I can always upgrade later. Question 3:? Are there any groups dedicated to satellite operations, listserv, Groups.io, other, I should be subscribed to?? I'm not aware of any here in the USA. Thank you, 73 Richard AG5M |
Re: FT8 - HELP!!!
The nightmare goes on............ wired up TRS...now have PTT working, the rig shows the word data when i TX... but output power is milliwatts..... i Used a little capacitor marked 104M, could it be blocking the audio? soundcard output on full!!

Re: FT8 - HELP!!!
开云体育Hi Rob,Well if receive is working, the sound card is likely ok.? But 2m FT8 is still using SSB, not FM, right?? I believe the DIN connector aims at the FM world (i.e. for packet radio), so it might be taking audio from the DIN (because PTT is there), but delivering it to the wrong place. Try this...? Put the rig in FM mode, minimum power, and see if you're getting the AUDIO out (check with an HT).? I bet you do.? That would confirm that you need to be connecting into the TRS jack. If so, take the PTT line and run it through a 2.2k resistor to the Tip of the TRS plug, with the audio going through a small DC blocking cap (0.1uf or so; not critical).? Ring of the TRS to Line-in on the audio card. Good luck! Greg? KO6TH Rob wrote:

Re: FT8 - HELP!!!
Still struggling Greg....... I've wired up a 6pin DIN for the packet socket....as I only want FT8 for 2m. |
Re: FT8 - HELP!!!
开云体育The PTT from the computer would be measured by an ohmmeter, not a voltmeter.? It's an open circuit when not active, and a low resistance when active.? There's a +8v (I think) bias on the Tip of the TRS that is pulled down by the PTT line.? You need to have the resistor in series so that the audio can still get through, and the DC blocking cap so that the 8v bias isn't fed into your computer's Line-out.Be sure to have your ohmmeter's leads so that the correct polarity voltage is applied to the PTT line.? Some (most?) meters put a positive bias on the Red, some a minus. Good luck! Greg? KO6TH Rob wrote:

Re: FT8 - HELP!!!
Sorry Rob.? I mis-read your post.? Don't know if not having PTT connected would cause your problem.? However, mine works fine with PTT and AF out multiplexed on the?tip. 73, Tom K6EU On Mon, Oct 11, 2021 at 9:38 AM Rob <g4ujs@...> wrote:
