Schematics?
Max Donoghue
Looking for a good set of schematics with voltage references. My 847 has no output on UHF band, known to me when I purchased it. I'm aware of the issue with the leads on the UHF module losing contact, but I checked that and resoldered just to be sure but did not resolve the problem. Time to start looking elsewhere.?
All suggestions on what to check next are welcome. Thank you Max |

Re: Couple of questions
Any external speaker should sound better than the internal speaker. In the old days radios were designed with large speakers pointing forwards towards the users earholes. Nowadays they fit tiny speakers anywhere they can. Or is that just a ploy to get owners to buy? overpriced extension speakers. I use a bookshelf speaker, that is around the same size as 847, it was one of two off Ebay at ?25 the pair.? If I was really worried, I would put a Yaesu sticker on it. I'm using the Kenwood SP-31.? Good idea with the potentiometer. Will give it a try. On Sun, Jul 10, 2022, 8:38 AM Spence M0STO via <unavailable.equal=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: Couple of questions
开云体育The TRS Data jack (vs the DIN one) combines the PTT and audio in (for transmitting) on the Tip of that TRS plug.? You need a 2k-ish resistor between the tip and the PTT line, and a DC blocking capacitor (a couple of uf) between the tip and your audio source.? The PTT signal can come from a variety of places.? Assuming you are using a sound card TNC (Direwolf, AGWPE, UZ7HO, et al), most use the serial port "modem lines" (DTR, RTS), with an appropriate buffer circuit.? That can be as simple as a transistor and resistor in an "open collector" circuit configuration.? The PTT is an active-low, so driving the transistor on with the modem line going high will do it, but be sure that the software configuration uses the modem lines in the right manner.? Some are active the wrong way, which kind of makes a mess of things.Actually I should back up and first ask what you are using for the TNC, and what sort of interface you are using between it and the rig.? Is it just a custom cable between the computer and radio, or are you using something like a RigBlaster?? The circuit above is likely already built into the RigBlaster if that's what you are using. Re: Couple of questions
开云体育Commanding PTT with the CAT interface takes the audio from the Mike input, not the Data jack.? You have to key the rig from the specific port the audio is coming from, or you'll get silence.Greg? KO6TH Max Donoghue wrote:

Okay, so I am making some progress.
CAT is wired and working, and RX audio from the radio is getting to the computer and being decoded. I am still not getting any TX tones from the computer into the radio through the DATA jack. The radio keys, but this could be CAT doing that. The computer is putting out the tones, because if I direct the audio to my speakers I hear it just fine. I'm at a loss. |
Re: Couple of questions
开云体育You must have a short somewhere, likely tip to something else.? PTT occurs when the tip of the plug gets pulled toward ground.? If there's nothing on the other end of the cable, then both the cap and resistor will be (should be) unconnected on one end.?Greg? KO6TH Max Donoghue wrote:
