Re: Need Advice Getting into Satellite Operations
Hi Richard, Hope to hear you on the satellites soon! They are a lot of fun. Yes, the FT847 is still a good satellite radio. It does full duplex and has decent power levels on both 2m and 70cm. Hears

Need Advice Getting into Satellite Operations
*Hello.? For a long time I have wanted to get into satellites.? That will change next spring.? A few questions: Question 1:? I have a Yaesu FT-847.? Is that still a very good radio to begin

Re: FT8 - HELP!!!
The nightmare goes on............ wired up TRS...now have PTT working, the rig shows the word data when i TX... but output power is milliwatts..... i Used a little capacitor marked 104M, could it be

OK!!!! you have won the bet!!!!! out comes a soldering iron again LOL. TRS it is 73 es TKS

Re: FT8 - HELP!!!
Hi Rob, Well if receive is working, the sound card is likely ok. But 2m FT8 is still using SSB, not FM, right? I believe the DIN connector aims at the FM world (i.e. for packet radio), so it might be

Re: FT8 - HELP!!!
Still struggling Greg....... I've wired up a 6pin DIN for the packet socket....as I only want FT8 for 2m. I now have PTT working via RTS and CAT only reading frequency not controlling PTT line.

Re: FT8 - HELP!!!
The PTT from the computer would be measured by an ohmmeter, not a voltmeter. It's an open circuit when not active, and a low resistance when active. There's a +8v (I think) bias on the Tip of the TRS

Re: FT8 - HELP!!!
Sorry Rob. I mis-read your post. Don't know if not having PTT connected would cause your problem. However, mine works fine with PTT and AF out multiplexed on the tip. 73, Tom K6EU

Re: FT8 - HELP!!!
Hi Greg, Thanks again.... I am sure it helps. So I need to use the TRS socket. Now to find a 2k resistor and a capacitor!!! Is there anyway of seeing the "signal" on the PTT..... clipping my

Re: FT8 - HELP!!!
Hi Rob, You need to key the rig with the TRS jack, not the DIN. The DIN heads over to the FM world, and I don't recall it working with the HF SSB modes, though I could be wrong. My head was getting

Re: FT8 - HELP!!!
Thanks Greg & Tom I think I understand but I still cant get it to work. I was only wanting to use the 847 on 2m FT8 and was wiring to the 6pin data socket only. The soundcard USB Data mode cable I am
Re: FT8 - HELP!!!
What Tom said. The 847 is centered in the "uncanny valley of engineering" with its handling of PTT. Too smart, and not smart enough. It apparently tries to choose the audio source from wherever PTT is

Re: FT8 - HELP!!!
Not having AF out connected to the tip would cause the problem you are seeing. I have a FT-847 running FT8 using PTT multiplexed with AF out per the manual. 73, Tom K6EU

Re: FT847 and automatic tuner
Hello again Rolf......yes, I use the interface cable (forget it's number now & its hard to reach - but its the one that MFJ makes for the 939). The only possible drawback with the 939 is that it has

Re: FT847 and automatic tuner
Hi Mike, thank you for your reply. Short question, do you use an interface cable with the FT847 or not ? 73 Rolf, DC1ZZ

Re: FT847 and automatic tuner
Hi Rolf, I have the MFJ-939 wth my FT-847. It works well & no problems (upto now, anyway!). 73.....Mike.

Re: FT847 and automatic tuner
Hi Nils and Joseph, many thanks for the answers. Actually I try to find an automatic tuner with interface cable. And yes, the FT847 is no longer in production. 73 Rolf, DC1ZZ

Re: FT847 and automatic tuner
Hi Rolf I used an LDG YT847 with my FT847. It was truly plug and play, just connect the RF to the radio. I worked very well with my HF9V antenna. I have since sold mine and I don¡¯t think it is
