Alford/Aldford/Bigot/Owens
Hello group! I'm a new member to this group (having been on the Devon group for many a year), and find myself now in the Middle Ages of Cheshire - Aldford and environs, and at Holt Castle, Holt, Denbighshire. I learned today that an Alford married a Puleston, which is commemorated on a tablet in St. Chad's, Holt. An excerpt of this tablet says: "at the east end of the north aisle in Farndon Church, which is upon the Cheshire bank of the Dee, immediately opposite Holt, records a marriage of Pulestone with Alford, and bears the arms of Alford of Holt: Six pears with a chief." This remark gives no year or first names. Does anyone have a knowledge of this or of Alfords/Aldfords/Bigots? My great grandmother's (from Gittisham, E Devon) aunt, Lydia Alford, married a Lewis Owens, son of Owen and Jane Owens, *18 Dec 1822 Montgomeryshire, Wales, chris 27 June 1830 Llanrhaiadr-ym-Mochant Tabernacle Congregational. Anyone know of these names? Thanks for any info you can help me with. Lora in Wisconsin USA

Help
2
So I am researching my family. I have went as far back as I can and I¡¯m stuck. I have found on ancestry.com that my furthest relative is Sebastian Boston Ollis (1744-1835). I found elsewhere that his fathers name is Peter Frederick Ollis (1715-1787). Sebastian moved to the us and started his family tree there. I¡¯m wanting to know about the family he left behind in wales. I¡¯m just wanting to travel down that lineage and see where I come from and if I have any relatives alive. Any help would be fantastic!

Cemetery in Aberystruth?
3
Hi I have an individual, Leonard BOUCHER. His first name is variously recorded as Lenet or Lennet or Leonard. He died in 1856 at the age of 24 (England & Wales Deaths 1837-2007 Q4 11a 43, as Lenet). He was buried 15 December 1856 in Aberystruth, Monmouthshire (Monmouthshire Burials P. 289, as Lennet). The problem is, I cannot find a burial place in Aberystruth. The cemetery at Nantyglo and Blaina didn't open until about 1885, so I assume there must be a burial ground associated with a church or chapel in or close to Aberystruth, but the internet is pretending not to know of one. Does anyone with local knowledge have any idea on possibilities for this? Thanks

#Administration - Guidelines

Hello genealogy researchers: This group is for genealogy, family history and local history research. Please enter all surnames in CAPITALS in the subject line before posting. This makes your post more eye catching both in the group and the archives. It will also avoid confusion if the surname is the same as a given name (eg James/JAMES) or the surname is the same same as a place (eg Lewes/LEWES). Please feel free to ask questions to help with your research, and help others where you feel you are able. Please stay on topic, Do not post virus warnings, 'test' messages, chain letters, political announcements, current events, items for sale, personal messages. Do not 'hijack' a topic - start a new one if you are changing the subject matter. It's best not post anything about anyone who is living, (or likely to be living), even if you have their permission. Any such posts will be removed without warning. Remember that your reply goes to the group, so do not post any private or sensitive information. Genealogy is a family activity. Be kind and courtious to all, and treat others as you would have them treat you. Michael A. Lewis List Moderator

JONES of Pentre Denbighshire
Hello everyone : ) My ancestor was OWEN JONES of 'PENTRE DENBIGHSHIRE' (according to the 1861 census). He has always been a bit of a mystery to me. He was born about 1830-1835 and he married a widow named Jane (nee Lockett) Johnson in Shelton Staffordshire in 1856. From the marriage record I could see that his father was named Robert Jones. They had two children together: my ancestor Mary in 1858 and her brother Robert in 1860. In 1861 they were living at Burslem where he recorded his place of birth as 'Pentre Denbighshire'. He was a coal miner and Jane was a potter. Earlier in 1851 he may have been a visitor recorded in Shelton with another visitor named Edward Jones. After 1861 Owen vanishes. Janes older children born to her first husband are living with their Grandparents so I presume that Jane perhaps passed away. My ancestor Mary turns up next marrying William Boardman in Lancashire in the 1870s and I have no idea where she was before then. The family had always referred to her as being Welsh, so I wondered if perhaps she went to Wales with her father but I can't find any evidence of this. Perhaps the reference just came from having a Welsh father and her English mother might have died when she was very young. I can't find a matching burial for Jane frustratingly. I have all the information I need on Mary and her family in Lancashire, the mystery I would love to discover is what happened to Owen and Jane after 1861....and where did Owen come from (who were his family, what part of Wales exactly was he born in etc.) Unfortunately if it was him recorded as a visitor in 1851 that means I can't search for him in Wales that year...but perhaps his father Robert is still in Wales at that time. I've tried hunting around before but it's a challenging search with so many places called Pentre and so many Jones's! Thanks, Tamara
