82 repeater plan 5
I propose that those interested in getting the 82 repeater up and running meet this week to form a plan of attack. How does a 5:30pm meeting at the EOC sound? Can do Today, Wed, Thur, or Fri. Then a trip to the site to evaluate the situation as soon as feasible. Harley ki7xf Virus-free.www.avg.com

After last night's meeting the outside DOOR was NOT SECURED (metal cover plate was left over lock) and the meeting room lights were left ON! :-( We need to be SURE these are done. The last person out of the building needs to check these. Don n7flt Virus-free.www.avg.com

Montana State University ARC Weekly/Monthly Events 2
Hello all, Now that students are settled into courses and routines, we have a solid MSU ARC schedule established. Nets are open to the community -- we really appreciate it when Hams in the area join in! Simplex Net on Monday Nights at 8:30 PM: 145.000 MHz primary frequency, 145.125 MHz back up frequency. The W7YB station has antennas on the roof of Cobleigh Hall, so we can usually cover most of Bozeman pretty easily. Repeater Net on Thursday Nights at 8 PM: KI7XF Repeater. Special events the afternoon/evening of the first Saturday of each month, starting October 7. This is something new we are trying -- we'd like to do some different things to keep people learning. Any suggestions for activities (antenna building, turning the Noodle sculpture into an antenna, foxhunting, etc.) or experienced Hams looking to give back by helping us learn something new would be welcome! Inaugural Intercollegiate Chess Tournament: A chess tournament is being organized under the auspices of ARRL's Collegiate Amateur Radio Program. For these next three weeks, we will be playing one game a week (times made public when we know them!). For us, this will start with a match against Case Western Reserve University ARC on Sunday at 3:15 PM MDT, played over EchoLink (Node # 198430) due to planned station downtime at Case. Again, we'd love to see the Bozeman community support our members in getting comfortable on the air and obtaining Ham Radio licenses! 73, Caroline (KI7AJB) W7YB ARC at MSU

Saddle Peak Activation
Hey all! A little late notice, but I'll be up activating Saddle Peak tomorrow morning. Planning on heading up from Truman Gulch, so I should be up there nice and early. No real estimates on time, but I'll hang out at the summit longer than my normal 15 minutes! I'll be on 146.52 as always. Thanks!! Spencer - KJ7SSS

Carolynn¡¯s antenna 6
Good job, except a when a tree is used as a support tying the line off isn¡¯t a good idea, due to the fact the tree will move in a good breeze. I have seen installations which included a door spring. I was surprised Ace has springs that look like they would work. At a minimum loosen the line as much as you dare to allow for tree movement. The other popular solution is to put weight on the end of the line. Anything to allow the living antenna support to move while keeping the antenna in the air. Good luck and 73, Leon N6VS Get Outlook for iOS

Carolynn's Antenna Projects 2
It was a beautiful day to be putting up antennas! Eric (KE7NLU) and I (KK7CJV) helped Carolynn (KF7YUS) install a 20 meter hamstick outside of her apartment. With her new General privileges she is just chomping at the bit to try out HF. Eric found a spot on an old AC unit that would work great to hold her 2 meter and 20 meter antennas outside and still be incognito. Then we headed to Carolynn's church to install a diplexer and the new end fed 80-10 meter antenna. Installing the antenna on the building was of little chore but the issues began when trying to 'throw' the other end over a tree. Eric tried tossing the end tied to a tennis ball over the tree with little luck. Then he tried a slingshot (provided by the ever-resourceful Carolynn) to 'sling' the end of the antenna over the tree. Carolynn and I provided ample encouragement and support from the ground. As the day was winding to an end, we all decided on one last chance of tossing the rope tied to a rock (heavier than a tennis ball) over the tree before retreating in defeat to organize a new battle plan. With a mighty toss, the line went over the tree!! Success! Eric tied off the end and now for the true test. Carolynn and Eric tested the radio with the newly installed antenna. They were able to contact a California POTA. 59 both ways! Eric also tested the J-pole on the Bridger Repeater and Tom (KE7VUX) in Helena was able to give him a signal report. It was a great day talking radio and helping another ham get on the air!

FW: Help Operating for Fire Prevention Week
Here is the request from K7NM for some local operators to operate/contest using N7F any time from Oct 6-12 that I QST¡¯d on the net tonight. Every call letter district gets an NxF call sign and Lee would like the 7 region to be represented. Feel free to Email Lee if you have an interest. WA7MKN From: Lee Barrett <leejudybarrett@...> Sent: Tuesday, August 20, 2024 7:15:59 PM To: Banker4hire@... <banker4hire@...> Subject: Help Operating for Fire Prevention Week Hello Jim, I have to be at Montana State University during Fire Prevention Week this year - so can't operate as N7F this year as I have for the previous decade. There are awards for working all call district NxF's and one Canadian active station. So no N7F would put a wrench in the works. Can you please help? Or announce it to any of the HF capable hams in the 7 call district you know? Any day, any mode, any time for any period... All is acceptable. I will collect the logs at the end. 6 October 00:00 GMT to 12 October 23:59 GMT is the period. The call is N7F (reserved under my call K7NM). Be ready for pile-ups - they do happen! Sure would appreciate folks covering some of it (or all if anyone can). Please pass my email to anyone interested and will do contribute to the effort. I will give further instructions to the participants. Thanks a lot! Kind regards and 73, Lee Barrett - K7NM PS - I will be in Bozeman for several days with intermittent trips to Yellowstone and to Hamilton to see my mother - depending on weather. It would be great to have an eyeball QSO sometime while there if your schedule fits a time and place.
