Jitsi for W7DXX Enthusiasts
Rather than explain what I am doing, join me at this impromptu, unofficial launch of?.? It is like Zoom, but free and better.
It is for anyone interested in operating the W7DXX remote. Old-timers or newbie, like me, are welcomed. I will be hanging out there today, January 5, from 1800 - 1900 UTC. This "proof of concept" project is not endorsed by Keith. At least, not yet. |

Re: Free Access
You need to contact these magazines. They are always looking for new articles?and remote?hams get very little play in mags. You got a good write-up a while?ago in?QST by ARRL and QC. That's where I discovered W7DXX. You have a K3 TX, KPA 1500 amp, and tower that starts at 4500'. That's impressive.? ARRL magazines. QST, QEX, National Contest Journal. Put in a $20.00/month on PayPal subscription plan. We all know and understand that the remote doesn't run on air. Does the shack have heat? Joe Taylor KI5QZW On Tue, Jan 4, 2022 at 9:57 AM Keith Lamonica, W7DXX <w7dxx@...> wrote:

Free Access
The free access idea of mine was a hope to get some of our regulars back.? It was to be a short time plan. I t was not meant to suggest any lack of appreciation to those of you who have paid regular dues.? If It came across that way,?I sincerely am sorry. You must understand that when I am alone at the remote fighting technical issues at 3am in freezing rain and wind, I don't always think clearly. There is always the mental financial strain of the remote which makes things worse. The latest strain: our 5 gHZ link from home to the remote just was not working so I ordered a dedicated internet service at the airport, increasing?our monthly remote expenses $85.00 - - there just was no other?choice.? IF I COULD FIND A WAY to generate another $100/mo for the remote things would work much easier, ESPECIALLY, IF I HAD SOME RELIABLE HELP. PUT ON YOUR THINKIING HATS AND PLEASE HELP SOME SOLUTIONS. |
Re: Log Periodic Height?
Don¡¯t know - I¡¯m my many years of being an administrator of the remote I¡¯ve never seen that message. The latest lightning strike may be responsible.?

Re: Log Periodic Height?
Yes, obviously, I wanted to know how high the log periodic is above ground.
I have no particular need for a long key-down. I was just curious because today, during my first day of operation, amidst the frequent server disconnects I experienced, a message quickly flashed on the screen which was too quick to read, saying something about timeout and a long tx period. I was concerned I was the cause of the problem. |
Re: Log Periodic Height?
Yes - you are exactly correct - apparently you really want to know how far up the tower above ground the Log is located:? the answer is 63 feet. No, there is no "key down" timeout set - obviously, this is ham radio equipment and is not rated for Continuous Commercial Service (CCS) and therefore a degree of common sense is required.? For most hams there is not much of a reason to stay "key down" for much more than a few minutes unless you are particularly long winded on SSB or using some high duty cycle mode. What do you have in mind?
