Another reason I am feeling old....

...other than the fact that?I am getting old, is because my grandkids? keep having more of my great-grandkids.? My grand son Cameron and his wife had twins today.? My God, I have great-grandkids old enough to make me a great-great-grandfather. Yet, I am still able to maintain the remote. Albeit, not as quickly..

Re: KRC-2

Keith,

I doubt it was a surge. Isn't the KRC-2 powered by a 12V power supply with a regulated output? IMHO, the power supply would have taken the hit in a power surge.

I have run Astron 12V power supplies up to 150 VAC on the input and the output remains at 12VDC. Until the regulator fails.

However, it it is powered buy a wall wart, all bets are off.

Fortunately, George, W3AB, did such a professional job building the kit for us, Elecraft could find no issues with the construction and will repair the unit under warranty.? At least I was not imagining the fault.

We should probably just set up the Member's Directory right here in the Group.IO.

I saw you had a couple issues.

?

CW speed

No K3s??? The radio panel shows speed ¡ but slider does nothing ¡ cw speed is set in cfg on the cw panel.

With K3s ¡ the speed knob works ¡ panel display works ¡ slider does nothing

With k3s and n1mm ¡ n1mm speed (page up and down) does not work¡ K3s knob works but you need to send a dot or something with the paddle to have N1MM stored messages track the speed change.

?

RF Gain

I saw the preamp was on ¡ probably most of the issue ¡ I find reducing the RF gain helps sometimes and it should work ¡ the gain knob on the K3s works ¡ When you sign-in if the rx seems dead, check the RF gain ¡ someone may have left it turned down.

1 - If Keith made the change in an effort to keep the station more stable, I'm all for it.
2 - Reliability and availability of the core functions of the station are what matter to me - Keith seems to be making a lot of these changes with this in mind.

I'm newer here, and enjoy working the station - and I really appreciate the work that goes into the station and everything else behind the scenes.

Good morning Keith!

It looks good. Thank you! For me the RF gain control is an important tool. Especialy in high noise conditions. Makes for much easyer listening!
You should have seen the Moon, Jupiter and Saturn on the remote cam last night!

Dale/N3BNA, Question for you on the RG Gain control. I am asking you because of your very intense DXpedition background. Why would you not want to use RF Gain control? When you are in a contest, do you basicly just leave it at 100 percent? This is an educational question for me!
