W0NE Winlink Net Reminder - Sept 19, 2024
Hello Everyone, Tomorrow is our weekly Winlink net. For those with forms capability, let's use the ICS-213 form for our check-in tomorrow. It is located under ICS USA Forms -> ICS213 General Message. To complete the form, fill it out as follows: Check the "This is an exercise" box. 1. Incident Name - W0NE Winlink Net 2. To - Net Control 3. From - Your Name 4. Subject - W0NE Winlink Net Check-In 5. Date - The current date 6. Time - The current time 7. Message - The usual check-in message Name, Call, etc... 8. Approved By - Your name 8a. Position - Net Participant Location information is optional. Since we have some newer folks, if anyone has trouble with the form or is unfamiliar please let me know. If anyone wants to try P2P this week, I have it up and running starting now, but it is by no means required (send to KU0HN if doing P2P). The W0NE-7 node/digipeater seems much happier now so we might have better luck this week. 73, Ben - KU0HN

Hello Everyone, We have 5 check-ins this week. Here is the roster: Boney, NA?SA, Rochester, MN, RadioMail on iOS Ben, KU0HN, Lewiston, Winona, MN, VHF Packet Chris, KD9CZM, Holmen, La Crosse County, WI, USA, VARA HF W2ILT, Martin, Laurel Springs, Camden, NJ, VHF Packet Ken, W9GM, La Crosse, La Crosse, WI, USA, Packet, W0NE-10 As summer is coming to a close, I would like to remind everyone that we will be going back to our Thursday schedule the week of Labor Day. If anyone has any exercise suggestions to kick things off, please let me know. Also, only somewhat related to the net, I decided to sell my IC-9700 as I was having difficulty with wide-band data modes (9k6 packet, M17, and VARA-FM Wide). After some back-and-forth with Icom support, they confirmed these modes may never be well supported. I am now looking for a replacement VHF/UHF all-mode transceiver that can do wide band data. The TS-2000 is at the top of my list so if anyone knows of anyone locally selling one, or anything similar (doesn't need the HF capability, just all-mode VHF and UHF. Power isn't a big concern as I have amplifiers for that.) I'd appreciate it if you could let me know. 73, Ben - KU0HN

W0NE Winlink net - Summer Schedule Changes 2
Hi All, Thanks everyone for the feedback. My preference is also to continue through the summer as well in one way or another, to both prevent skill atrophy and keep momentum. It tends to be harder to re-start something. Let's try a few changes and if they aren't working, we can revisit. I like Ken's suggestion about letting people try out any form/mode/whatever as long as the check-in info is there. If someone tries something unique or interesting, or learns something new, it can be made in to an exercise for the group once they start back up in the fall. Martin also had several good ideas. Let's try out having the check-in period be from Monday 00:00 to Friday 23:59 local (to the participant) time. I believe the NorCal Winlink net does something similar and it seems to work for them. It would also save me a little bit of time as the roster could also be the reminder for the next week. Having a backup or additional NCOs is also a wonderful idea. Any volunteers? I'll update the website and this group's home page with the new summer check-in information, and will open the net for check-ins Monday morning. 73 all, Ben - KU0HN

W0NE Winlink net - Summer Haitus? 5
Hi Everyone, I've noticed check-ins have decreased a bit with the nicer summer weather. That's completely understandable as we all probably have more important things going on. I have the same issue. My daughter has softball games in Wednesday evenings now which has been taking up the time I had previously used to put exercises together. I have a few ideas on how to proceed: 1. Change the net to a different day of the week. (Open to suggestions) 2. Continue the Thursday nets through the summer, but stick to basic check-ins until the beginning of September. 3. Go on hiatus until the beginning of September. Please let me know what you all think. 73, Ben KU0HN
