Hi All,

Thanks everyone for the feedback.? My preference is also to continue through the summer as well in one way or another, to both prevent skill atrophy and keep momentum.? It tends to be harder to re-start something.

Let's try a few changes and if they aren't working, we can revisit.

I like Ken's suggestion about letting people try out any form/mode/whatever as long as the check-in info is there.? If someone tries something unique or interesting, or learns something new, it can be made in to an exercise for the group once they start back up in the fall.

Martin also had several good ideas.? Let's try out having the check-in period be from Monday 00:00 to Friday 23:59 local (to the participant) time.? I believe the NorCal Winlink net does something similar and it seems to work for them.? It would also save me a little bit of time as the roster could also be the reminder for the next week.? Having a backup or additional NCOs is also a wonderful idea.? Any volunteers?

I'll update the website and this group's home page with the new summer check-in information, and will open the net for check-ins Monday morning.

73 all,
Ben - KU0HN

Re: W0NE Winlink net - Summer Haitus?

Ben and the group-

I respectfully suggest that the net remain active, we use just a simple message for check in with one line of information. ?The net could remain open for a whole week which would allow your participants time to check in when they can, not just in a 24- hour period.

another option would be for you to assign the net control duties to participants that would be interested in the practice as Net Control Operator and it could give you a break. It would be good practice to have a back-up Net Control Operator on stand-by as a norm anyway.?

respectfully,
Martin Wilt, W2ILT

Hello Ben and the group¡

?

My first choice is also #2.? ??We could vary the forms, etc. but always include the basic info.? The choice of the forms or templates could

be an individual thing, not directed by you Ben.? Also, we can give you as much time as you need to compile the list of check-ins and not

necessarily be looking for the results on that following Friday or even Saturday.

?

Ultimately the decision should really be yours Ben.? You have the young family, and it is summer.

?

Take care¡73,

?

Ken W9GM

Hi Everyone,

I've noticed check-ins have decreased a bit with the nicer summer weather.? That's completely understandable as we all probably have more important things going on.

I have the same issue. My daughter has softball games in Wednesday evenings now which has been taking up the time I had previously used to put exercises together.? I have a few ideas on how to proceed:

1.? Change the net to a different day of the week. (Open to suggestions)

2.? Continue the Thursday nets through the summer, but stick to basic check-ins until the beginning of September.

3.? Go on hiatus until the beginning of September.

Please let me know what you all think.

73,
Ben KU0HN?

Re: W0NE Winlink net - Summer Haitus?

I prefer your second option of keeping it on Thursday but sticking to just basic check-ins. My concern about the third option is that it would give me too much temptation?to let my skills get rusty. I love the weekly push to get on the air so my skills don't atrophy.

Thanks for organizing us,
Chris - KD9CZM

W0NE Winlink net -no roster this week

Hello all,

Since messages are still making there way through NTS there is no roster this week?

73,
Ben KU0HN?

W0NE Winlink Net Reminder - 6-6-24

Hello Everyone,

Field Day is only a few weeks away.? An NTS message delivered to your ARRL section manager is worth 100 points, and another 10 points are awarded for each NTS message originated, relayed, or received from your field day station, up to 10 messages for a total of 100 points.

Winlink can be used for any of these activities.

For this week's net, send an NTS form to W0NE where the message contains the regular check-in information.? For those who weren't with us last time we did that exercise, the North Florida ARRL section has a great tutorial available on using the NTS form here: ?

I'm looking forward to some NTS traffic on Thursday!

73,
Ben - KU0HN

W0NE Winlink Net Roster - 5-30-2024

As promised, here is the roster albeit a little late:

Ben, KU0HN, Las Vegas, Clark, Nevada, Telnet - Apparently the windows on the hotels here have a coating that attenuates 2 meters pretty well. ?I have clear LOS to 3 different gateways less than 10km away and can't connect to or hear any of them.
Ken, W9GM, La Crosse, La Crosse, WI, Packet, W0NE-10
Chris, KD9CZM, Holmen, La Crosse County, WI, USA, VARA HF ?
Martin, W2ILT, Laurel Springs, Camden, NJ, VHF Packet, via W2MMD-3 - IMPORTANT: ?S A F E ? T R A V E L S !!!

Since we have been doing simple check-ins the last few weeks, I'll try to have a good exercise ready to go by Wednesday.

73 all,
Ben - KU0HN

W0NE Winlink Net Reminder - 5-30-24

Tomorrow is our weekly net.? This week the format will be a standard check-in either with the check-in form or the template below:

Subject: Winlink Net Check-In
Email Body: Name, Callsign, City, County, State, Country, Mode (and Gateway if applicable)

I am traveling for work this week so the roster may be a day or two late.

Ben - KU0HN

W0NE Winlink Net Reminder 5-9-2024

Happy Wednesday,

For tomorrow's net, let's reverse last week's exercise.

Please check in using your internet email address.? Send the check-in to w0ne@....

IMPORTANT:? Winlink does not typically accept inbound email from the internet unless the address is in the Winlink user's safelist or the subject line begins with //WL2K.? Since I haven't safelisted everyone's emails it's important to begin the subject line with //WL2K.? I would also suggest CCing your own Winlink account just to make sure delivery is working correctly.

Here is the Check-In format:

To:? w0ne@...
CC: yourcall@...
Subject:? //WL2K W0NE Winlink Net Check-In
Email Body: Name, Callsign, City, County, State, Country, Internet
