Yikes! One time in Madison we had a person taking us home from a restaurant or something. We lived in an apartment building and he went through the parking lot back on the street through the parking lot in circles over and over. Yes it was night and I couldn’t see as well as I would have in daytime. But he did not know that. He probably thought both of us were totals. Anyway, I surprised the crap out of him. I told him that I know where I am and if he stop, I am going to open my door. ! I had to open the door. Scared him, and I hope that guy never did it to another blind person. Thankfully, the parking lot was well lit otherwise I may not have realized it. I think it was winter too so the light reflecting off the snow helped me recognize the area some. Most it was my gut that told me somethings odd. Sometimes we get our Noah stuck in our phones and don’t pay attention. Not smart!

I can only think of a handful of times this has happened to my husband and I since Uber and Lyft really got popular. We don’t have any problems in Janesville Wisconsin and we really didn’t have much trouble with language barrier in Madison. Mostly we just had idiots that saw the canes and canceled. That’s a whole Nother story. Minneapolis we had several issues like that. Here I think the biggest problem is one of the people is deaf and it shows it on the profile, but that doesn’t help us. This person the ability I guess to vocalize. So if you’re totally blind , it’s completely frustrating.?

Believe it or not, the person that was using the bus to UPS, was a ex military individual. So he totally took me up on my offer. I have never had any language issues with anybody that I've had anybody that's driven for me.

Hello, actually it has. Not from Uber or Lyft. But from our local transportation system, was mainly where I would use it the most. And they have a outdated GPS, and so it would try to take them the back way to get to my house, and every time that they would, get to where the GPS told him my house was it wasn't there. So I had to tell them to not use theirs and let me just guide them. Which is what we did.

I mainly use it for the term by turn directions, and to keep me informed of how many miles I am away from my current destination. I don't use it to alert me whenever I pass by a business.

Lyft already sends texts when a driver is either deaf or hard of hearing. I don’t know why they wouldn’t do this for language barriers.

If English text messages get translated into a foreign language user's
language on the foreign language user's phone Uber could improve by having
information come up letting a user know driver has trouble with english so
communicate only by texts before and during your ride. Of course Uber
would need to test drivers during their work with Uber to make this
improvement possible.

Oh, I can tell you it is. I have a couple of friends that live in New York City. And they definitely have trouble communicating with some of the drivers. For access arrive.

I'm located in Central Texas. And yeah, I know about how bad the English is there in New York. I've been to Rochester. Matter fact, my uncle used to live there.

Believe it or not, the person that was using the bus to UPS, was a ex military individual. So he totally took me up on my offer. I have never had any language issues with anybody that I've had anybody that's driven for me.

Hello, actually it has. Not from Uber or Lyft. But from our local transportation system, was mainly where I would use it the most. And they have a outdated GPS, and so it would try to take them the back way to get to my house, and every time that they would, get to where the GPS told him my house was it wasn't there. So I had to tell them to not use theirs and let me just guide them. Which is what we did.

I mainly use it for the term by turn directions, and to keep me informed of how many miles I am away from my current destination. I don't use it to alert me whenever I pass by a business.

I bet that it’s even more challenging in New York City or Boston, or any of the other melting pot cities.? I got to use Lyft when I was in Detroit last fall, and service was good but I only got to use it once to grab something to eat and then go back to my aunt’s.? Usually, in Rochester with a few exceptions, when I order Lyft I get one within minutes.? When I was at my aunt’s house it took about 10 minutes give or take to get the Lyft to the restaurant and another 10 minutes to get back home.

Believe it or not, the person that was using the bus to UPS, was a ex military individual. So he totally took me up on my offer. I have never had any language issues with anybody that I've had anybody that's driven for me.

Do you know what options the drivers have as far as navigation and directions is concerned? ?Some drivers have navigation turned on and some don’t.? Also, has your Google Maps contradicted any directions that the driver may be getting from their program, and if so how have you handled a situation like that?
