Display driver kits shortly

开云体育

With one or two exceptions… I’ll put together kits for the display driver.? I can even have a few of them built for those who want a finish product (my daughter-in-law is a stay at home EE who needs something to do.? She has built stuff for me before).

?

One thing… I need some help finding the part in the attached diagram at a reasonable price (like it should be about $0.15 max each)… it’s a 10 pin female socket, 2x5, PCB mount.? Tayda has 2x4 and 2x6 but not 2x5 for whatever reason.? Digikey and Mouser are sky high.

Thanks for your work on this.? I would like two built versions if your daughter-in-law is willing.? I know you don't like to make money on these but please make sure she charges for her time.

If you cant get a reasonable price, how about just sandwiching two 1x5 headers?

The right ones will work…., but they need to be the thin versions or it’s a struggle.

Or depending on layout can you use the 2x6 and just snip 2 pins.? Is there real estate on the board for that?

If you do not mind AliExpress there are many choices.? Link to 1 below:

Well fact is… I’ve already done that… sort of…. For my prototype, I installed a 2x4 socket in a 2x5 holes pattern on the PCB knowing full well that 2 of the 10 holes on the end of the 2x5 connector are N/C.

?

However, good news!? I was able to find 10,000 of them surplus for a very low price.? They will be here next week.

?

There is another issue I discovered.? The ISO7241 SPI driver chip has two forms… an “M” form and a “C” form.? Here is the difference:

?

“The devices with the C suffix (C option) have TTL input thresholds and a noise-filter at the input that prevents transient pulses from being passed to the output of the device. The devices with the M suffix (M option) have CMOS VCC/2 input thresholds and do not have the input noise filter or the additional propagation delay.”

?

For electrically operating it won’t make a difference.? What might make a difference is the noise filter in the “C” version and I have not explored that (eg only have used the “M” version.?? I suspect the “C” version may work better for people in high EMI situations.? So I’m gonna make a few of each… send them out to a few folks here with finished radios and see which works best for them.? Unfortunately, I don’t have a high EMI location… so for me testing them may not be a fair comparison.

Those are 2mm, not 2.54mm.? ( I suspect you can find the .1" pitch there as well)

Suggestion: instead of placing a female connector on the board, use a male connector, and then use a short female to female IDC cable to attach.

I'm surprised more people are not using LCSC for components, they are the sister to JLCPCB.
?
Prices are mostly far better than Digi or Mouser, it just takes a little longer for deliveries. I won't enter into tariffs here. In Aus. the govt steals an extra 10% on everything that enters the country anyway.
?
I did a search on LCSC for those female headers, there's like 50 to choose from down to 4 or 5c ea at qty 400+, and 9c ea for qty 5+
- filter for "Holes Structure" = 2x5P and "in stock" gives 75 hits.

Worth checking out comparisons against the other companies...

Well let’s check that out.

?

  1. I bought 10,000 2x5 PCB sockets from LCSC.? Cost plus shipping, tax, etc left them at $0.26 each. ?That’s less than half of Mouser or Digikey (they are way over priced on connectors… I never buy them from Mouser or Digikey), but then I can buy the 2x3, 2x4, and 2x6 are $0.15, $0.16, and $0.18 each (all in) from Tayda…. So even LCSC is pretty high but much better than the rest.? And, of course, Tayda does not have them.
  2. HOWEVER, LCSC also has the chip… the ISO7241.? The part price of the “C” version is about $0.97 for 200 and the “M” part, (if they had any in stock) is $7.08 and they have a total of 20 parts.?? Mouser has them… “C” for $3.78 and the “M” for $3.67.

?

So sometimes better, sometimes worse… but that’s why I use Octopart… to always find the cheapest price on parts.

Fair call Bill. Always worth checking Octopart.
?
Just sayin.?
?
I bought almost all my parts for my T41's from LCSC and basically got double the qty of parts or more for the same price as if I'd used Mouser.
?
Obviously the toroids are a different story.?
