Re: Purpose of R8?
Here's what kept my audio off for the first day. The earphones have a 2 conductor jack, the xcvr has a 3 pin jack. Off to make the measurements for you now. SoftwareControlledHamRadio@...>

Re: Purpose of R8?
If anyone's ever in Cincinnati, you have to visit their store. From the outside, you'd hesitate to go in...old building in older section of the city...safe, but not pretty. But, go inside and it's

Re: Purpose of R8?
Jim, I'll make some measurements this evening. Going to build the bci filter from Jack. If you need a spare kit for parts or whatever I can loan you one I have and you can replace it when the ship

Re: Purpose of R8?
Jim: As soon as I finished the BCI filter, I called a friend of mine who wanted to try the rig out, so I just gave it to him. I have no way of measuring the voltage at J2 or J3. Can someone else do a

Re: Purpose of R8?
Agree Jack. I keep thinking it should be something obviously wrong. This is the 2nd 49-er kit I've built (very carefully) with the same symptom as the first. Although the DDS VFO system is on a

BCI Filter
One of the first posts I made here was for a BCI filter (see early photo). You can see the values in that photo. When I tested that filter, I wound the inductors on small toroids (FT37-61). I wondered

Re: Purpose of R8?
Just heard from Dennis, but he's on the road and will look at it when he returns. He did suggest checking for a broken trace as there are enough people using the circuit that it should be working for

Re: Purpose of R8?
My guess it's the socket mod with the pin removal and small mods there. I forgot to remove the socket pin so I just bent the ic pin up. I used a magnifying glass to check my soldering. Where do you

We're starting to get above my pay grade. I'll pass this along to Dennis and Farrukh and see what they say. Sorry! Jack, W8TEE To: SoftwareControlledHamRadio@... Sent: Saturday, June 11,

Re: Purpose of R8?
I do have a scope Jack... There's no output from the NE602, therefore, nothing into the LM386 audio amp.. Wonder if I have proper signal level from DDS VFO(?) because that signal is offset more than 3

Re: Purpose of R8?
Do you have access to a scope to see if any signal is getting to the 386? If you don't have one, check your local community college/university or even high school physics class and ask if you could

Re: Purpose of R8?
OK on R8; thanks Hank. Still have no audio output from the 49er. I do have a connection from C8 to pin 3 of LM386, so thats not it. Any ideas or thoughts welcome. Thanks, Jim-AB1BR

Re: RIT Offset Question
Yep, I understand what you're saying. Oddly, some kit seem to have an offset and others don't. I can't tell what the difference is. Jack, W8TEE To: SoftwareControlledHamRadio@... Sent:

Re: Purpose of R8?
The purpose of the R7, R8, C7 circuit going from the 12v bus to pin 26/A7 of the Arduino is to act as a voltage divider for the Arduino to sense then display the input voltage. Buried in the

Re: RIT Offset Question
Jack, Yes a 2n2222 will also work ;-) Just a quick note - the mod does not implement RIT although it could be considered a first step to doing so. It implements a user defined (at compile time)

Thanks for clearing things up for me. A little slow at times. But when you mentioned tomtom or whatever on eBay, I checked their VFOs to see what you were using. :) As for the 49er, its the most

RIT Offset Question
Lou: In your PDF that shows the mod on the key line for the Forty-9er, it shows the transistor as a 2N222. I'm assuming this is a 2N2222, right? Jack, W8TEE

Re: Mystery of R-0 ZERO
I built my radio per the March QST article. I did buy the PCB and Parts Kit from K2ZIA but I bought most of my components from BangGood.com. They had the AD9850 DDS for about $10 and the NANO for $3

The 12V circuit that divides down using a 20K ohm in series with R8, 10K trimmer potentiometer. It apparently adjusts the voltage level on pin 26 (A7) of the Arduino Nano chip. What does this do and
