Re: BPF and Teensy Problem
I see he sells header pins with different colors. I find these really handy for identifying test points on a board (e.g., red for voltage TPs, yellow for general purpose TP's, etc.) Jack, W8TEE

开云体育Hi Tom, sorry for the troubles.? Several people have reported trouble with the Chinese pins not making contact because the quality control is poor.? That is a great place to start.? Also check the cables closely to make sure they are built correctly.? Re: BPF and Teensy Problem
Tom
I think this has been mentioned, some of the import headers have pins that a not the right dimension, the pins should be almost square.
I went thru several Teensy's also before discovering the issue.?
I can go back and find the vendor that sold me correct headers, once I changed headers all my issues with audio hat and Teensy disappeared.
The Chinese header pins are stamped out of a very thin material and the pins don't make good contact.
I would assume headers from DigiKey and Mouser would also be quality products.

Re: Encoder board differences
开云体育Yes.? You simply daisy-chain another set of front panel boards on the cable from the MAIN board.? The additional front panel board sets must have a unique address (different from the one you currently have installed). ? I have two additional FP electronic boards attached (I did not populate the button parts… just the encoder parts) so have 4 additional dual encoders connected.? It could be a mix of up to 8 single encoders, but I wanted to prove that I could use the dual encoders for things that are stored by button access are normally on an encoder in other radios (like RF gain or power, filter width, etc.). ? ? Re: Initial Test of Main V12.6 board
开云体育Ok one more test you can run… The AUDIO HAT… and the RF board uses “WIRE” (not “WIRE1” or “WIRE2”)… so you could build the control portion of the RF board and try that to make sure that “WIRE” is working correctly.? I guess you could also connect to the “RF CONTROL” connector on the MAIN board to a bread-boarded MCP27018 with address 0x27 (which is “111” for A0, A1, A2) to see if it returns the part imitating the RF board.?? You just need pins 1 = SCL, 3 = SDA , and 5 = GND. ? ? Dr. William J. Schmidt - K9HZ J62K(J68HZ) 8P6HK ZF2HZ PJ4/K9HZ VP5/K9HZ PJ2/K9HZ VP2EHZ ? Re: Initial Test of Main V12.6 board
Thanks Jack and Bill,
Yesterday, I successfully ran the ASCII code.
Today, I built the Front Panel board and connected it. Success on Wire1. I2C device found at address 0x20: Front panel MCP23017 for switches 1-16 !So, it's between the Audio Adapter and the Teensy Audio Hat. I have ordered some Stacking Header strips with enough pins that I don't need to Dremel two 12 pins to make them fit. That is my only guess, that the two sets didn't line up perfect and maybe one was pushing on the connection one way and the other the opposite way. Until they arrive, I will look into the PRCJ docs on breadboarding the Teensy with the Audio Hat to see if something turns up.
Am I the only one that this happened to, not only that but two board sets in a row.

Re: Encoder board differences
开云体育By the way… most people don’t know this… but if you want more controls… switches and encoders on your radio to work with and program into software, you can add up to 4 front panel boards with 4 more encoders and 18 buttons (or if you don’t populate the button decoder, up to 24 more encoders… or if you just want a lot more buttons… up to 108 more buttons… or some combination of this).? Re: Initial Test of Main V12.6 board
开云体育Yeah you’ve got to build that front panel board anyway at some point… so give it a try and see if the test program can find that I2C device.? Remember that the teensy has THREE I2C busses and we use all three… meaning that two could be working just fine while the third has a short of some type.? ?
