You don't need to have it in a tab. Simply make sure the library is installed in the libraries subdirectory where you installed the Arduino IDE. The #include directive at the top of the source code file will pull in the correct libraries. My guess is that's where the issue is, because the rotary library I used is not the same as the one that comes with the IDE.

See what happens.

Now that we have eliminated wiring and hardware problems (I even tried using different Nano and DDS boards), I wonder if this could be a sketch error. I downloaded the Rotary.h file from the web site listed in the sketch and it shows up as a tab to the VfoSourceRev6-2 file. Is this correct or should the rotary code be in the main VFO sketch? If so, how do I get it from a tab into the main code?
