I also needed an encoder with threads, and was concerned by several comments from buyers?who were disappointed to find out that what they got didn't look like the pictures.? I picked up some from this source and they all had threads with nuts and washers.?
Way more pricey than the ones direct from China, but I got them in two days instead of two or three weeks.
The pins on the bare encoder are pretty flimsy and I needed a way to connect to them remotely, so I mounted them to a small board and added a five pin header. I also added the 10k resistors in series with the encoder and push button contacts, although I'm
not sure I really needed those:

I have ordered and received a couple of KY-040 encoders expecting to get the ones that are threaded to take a nut and getting ones that are unthreaded. The vendors have been nice about refunding money but I really need a encoder threaded and with a
mounting nut.
Anyone know of a source or want to trade for an unthreaded encoder?
