Nexus DSC - object selection

Hi,
We have recently purchased the Nexus DSC Pro and tried it last night while at the Texas Star Party.
I have a question about selecting an object.
?
We were in the Catalog Messier, and wanted M31 (or some other object currently up). We typed in the 3 then 1 and pressed OK. It returned some other M object information, not 31.
?
Something similar with the NGC catalog. Request one specific object and a different NGC object is displayed.
?
The first couple of objects we selected during the night were fine, no issue. But after some use, the above issue started happening.
?
Any thoughts on why this is happening?
This is a new Nexus right out the box.
?
Thanks
Steve Goldberg

Steve forward your comments to Serge the owner of Astro Devices, he will get back to you quickly. I copied him for you but now you have the info. There are too many variables for me to guess at, are you using the Servocat Gen 3 system with Nexus?

Steve,

I have only used anArgo Navis with my ServoCat, but is it possible that the Nexus is looking for a 3 digit number for the Messier list - like 031?

Thanks Mickey.
We bought this scope (used) a good number of years ago, so I am going to assume it is a Gen 2. Is there a quick way to determine the gen without opening the box? I don't want to do that in the middle of TSP. If something bad happens, then my wife will not be a happy camper this week. It is on her scope.

Hi Jack,
We'll check that possibility, but I don't think that is it.

Steve,

Gen2 will use a hand pad - it has the 4 yellow buttons, a green button, and a blue one. The cord is a stereo 1/8" headphone type cable. Also on the front to the left it says PC PORT.?

A Gen3 uses a hand controller (it has a microcontroller built in and thus has its own intelligence) with the 4 yellow buttons as well as 2 rows of 4 membrane buttons. The cable is a 4 conductor handset type cable. That front left connector says PC USB.?

Thanks Gary for the info.
She has the Gen 2 hand pad. And it has the slide switch for 3 different speeds.
On the other hand, I have the Gen 3 on my scope.
?
I'll check the labels on the front of the box.

no need to check the front if you know you have a Gen2 handpad. The Gen2 is not compatible with a Gen3 and vice versa.

Hello Steve,

Most likely you have enabled a filter in catalogues.

Please go to Find->From Catalogue, press right arrow key to select ¡®FILTER¡¯ tab and change the filter to ¡¯None¡¯ using up/down arrow keys. That should fix the problem.

Best Regards,
Serge Antonov, Astro Devices.

Hi Serge,
We checked the Nexus and we did not have a filter set.
?
The Nexus is on Amelia's 15" Obsession.?
However the Nexus worked perfectly last night. Since we are just starting out, she would select an object and use push-to to move the scope. The Nexus would get her very close to the object.??
?
Regards?
Steve and Amelia?

Hello Steve,

The filter will be reset upon a power cycle of Nexus DSC Pro. It is implemented this way to avoid the situations you have described - in case the filter is enabled and by the next time you observe you may not remember having the filter enabled.

I suspect the filter was accidentally enabled which resulted in the behaviour you described.

Best Regards,
Serge.
