Gary,
I own multiple cameras for imaging, and use them on multiple different rigs. But in the past I have imaged with my 20" F5 Galaxy Obsession many times. If i was starting fresh on a budget, I would buy the ZWO ASI 585MCPro Color cooled camera. It is the best
bang for the buck at this point IMHO, checking al the boxes. Good pixel size of 2.9u, fast frame rate for planetary work, wide field for DSOs. High well capacity and dynamic range. Low read noise and high QE. This is a cooled camera with integrated usb hub
for running other devices all off a single USB 3.0 cable. This would be a great camera for all scopes and mounts and work very well as an all arounder for an Obession or other large dob. Oh, and it has no amp glow, (although this doesn't bother me, too easy
to correct for in Sharpcap or Nina or whatever). Also, it is cheap. This is what i would recommend if you're looking for best bang for buck.
On my 20" Obsession I bought a second set of truss poles and cut them 1" shorter to reach focus on all my cameras. But in the end I just ended up leaving the shortened poles as the default poles. For visual observing I just bought a cheap 2" extension adapter
to use with all eyepieces, barlows, focal reducers, etc.
Here is a random inexpensive 2" extension adapter:
As I indicated, I regularly image with my other telescopes and modern high end ZWO and Touptek cameras, but have imaged with my Obsession in the past.
Here are some of the images i have taken with my Obession 20" and older cameras, caveat being I haven't imaged with it in almost 15 years, I have been using it for visual primarily. (which is why i am excited to use it for imaging again with a new Servocat
ability to interface with Sharpcap):
Hope this helps,

Sevan,
I'm confused by the statement that the 183 has a "Paracorr II position on the tunable top" ... looking at the ZWO webpage I don't see any reference to that.? g. |
