Hull Numbers

I haven't seen any posts in a while, not sure the list is still active but here goes anyway. I tried to renew my state registration on line and ran into an issue with the Hull ID number format. My boat is an 85 and my hull number is SSU270150585. The state says it is an incorrect (format) number because the 9th digit should be a letter not the number zero. It has been fine for nearly 30 years but now there is a question. According to the state Hull Number Checker the 9th digit should be a letter indicating the month, A=Jan, B=Feb, etc. Using that format there would be no letter "O", but if I replace the zero with a letter it takes it. I know there was a change in the HIN's just before my boat was produced but it doesn't match the earlier convention unless the 9th and 10th digit are a numerical reference to the month, 05 = May. Has anyone else run into this issue? I can easily replace the zero with a letter "O" and it will accept it but I wonder what's correct..... Confused? me too!

Hi George,? Nice to see another 27 in TN, where are you located?? Here is the link to the Hull Checker on the TWRA? ???? I haven't had any problems in the past either, but now there is some new rule that the USCG has mandated.? Since we own "sisters"? your number is most likely the same format as mine.

I've got my boat at Paris Landing on Kentucky Lake.? Bought it on Percy Priest way back in 1990.? That's a long time to own one boat but it's been a great one.?

Really curious about the hull number now.? Maybe I should take the rest of the day off...

By all means, take the day off! I did. I first saw my boat at Percy Priest in 85 while buying a Catalina 22. The boat was sold to someone at Ky Lake but came up for sale a year later. I bought it from them and brought it back down the river to Nashville in August of 86 and have owned it ever since. I haven't seen another boat that compares for my needs and it still works like it did when I bought it. It took two years to sell my 22 but that was ok too.

David, Your HIN looks like it should with the "H" = August, maybe I need to go take another look and make sure mine is something other than a 0.

Mine is SSU27016D585.??
the "D" means it was built in November.? Maybe yours should be a C for October since it was built right before mine.
