The previous owner on my boat sawed open the panel between the water tank and engine. Removing the water tank temporarily then gave me plenty of access to the stuffing box.?

I know this posting is old, but I am in the process of checking out an S2 27 so I am hoping someone can help. ?I asked the current owner how to access the stuffing box as the engine compartment is pretty tight. ?He wasn't sure himself, but it looks like the only access is from the starboard side cockpit locker. ?Am I right on this? ?If not, how should I get access to the stuffing box? ?Based on what I have read here the water I found underneath the engine could be from a leaky stuffing box. ?Any other thoughts on how water can get in the area directly underneath the engine?

thanks,

Joe
