Rick,
I get water into my boat via the cockpit lazarettes. When I wash down the boat really well, or after a particularly heavy rainstorm, water will back up in the "channels" where the seats/lids fit, and the water drips into the lazarettes...maybe the piano hinge is the culprit, but I really don't know. Regardless, that water ends up in my bilge, since I've seen the path(s) it takes. I have been trying to figure out a way to make that seat lid joint water tight...
Can't help you with the keel step question, though, since my boat is deck stepped.

has anyone found an other areas on their keel stepped 27 where water accumulates in bilge? i have re torqued the keel bolts, glassed the keel hull joint (probably not perfectly though..), and of course realize the mast brings in water.
i don't think a leaky stuffing box woud cause water to go into the bilge as it accumulates in the area under the engine. any thoughts of rain wayer entering rhe bilge appteciated. and no i haven't tasted the water to see if it's salty....
thanks!
