Re: Southern Decadence

One of the issues is that with some of these wiki-based sites, leaving it open to the world causes issues with said sites getting hacked. It sucks, but I have experienced it before, so I don't blame any game owner for doing so. It takes 5 seconds to request access to a game, and I have never waited more than a few hours to get it approved.?

I started RPing online in 1995 when there were no websites for games, everything was play-by-email, and these advertisements were the only way to judge a game. I am grateful for how far we have come. I have had sites hacked, and it sucks when you lose everything.?

So, let's all be kinder and understanding. It's not a big deal to ask for access if you find a game interesting.?

I actually see Cy's point, Most people don't want to have to ask to get a proper link or to be invited to view a potential new game's basic info. I too like to browse the webpage, get an idea of the activity levels, the general rules, recent or past history etc. to get a better feel of the place. Also, especially for forum based games, whether I can actually read the text without undue strain on my eyes. So many colour schemes out there are just very difficult for me to read, especially if there are no alternative 'skins' to choose from.?

That said, I do understand why some people may not want random 'guests' browsing their RPG bios/plots etc especially if there's age restrictions or concerns ideas would be stolen. However, it's not that hard to limit what areas of a forum (not sure if Wiki allows this) a guest/non registered user can access while still giving them enough access to get an idea of what the site is like and all the important information for the game (ie limitations, bans of? certain characters/races/professions etc, general want ads, application information (even if bios themselves are banned) and playby lists.

Well, I¡¯m sure this won¡¯t be appreciated either.

You could request access to see the information you say you¡¯re interested in. Or ask that the link be made public. Or sent?this privately.?

All of which, again,?would have provided you with the information about the game.?

There were options here that didn¡¯t involve you using one game and one?set of people to call out an issue that you claim to have with many different RPG¡¯s over the years.?

This was?rude and uncalled for, and I think the way you opened your response shows you know?that.?

Hmm.

So, I'm not sure this will be appreciated, but, I don't really understand why you have a link to the wiki for the game when there is no information available. And it looks like less than an ideal way to sign up to even be able to look at said information. This isn't the first game I have seen do this, either. As someone that might have an interest in a game, and someone that has been active for 20 years, a link to nothing is quite off-putting. I'd like to actually be able to see information other than just the advert spiel. Take a look at character bios and what might be wanted/needed to make one myself. See if anyone I might want to use has already been claimed as the avatar/face/whatever term you like. See if you have specific information about locations that will be used in the game, rules, FAQ etc. Anything to get a feel for the game or the other people I might be joining. Having something available to see without the need to join has also in the past let me see when a game that seemed cool for a shiny advert actually wouldn't work for me because of time commitments or game play style which are also important.

Just some thoughts.
