Thanks for sharing these ideas. Hadn’t heard of No-Ox-ID A Special and just ordered some. Had heard that di-electric grease was an insulator but didn’t know there was a conductive alternative.? Interesting how many odd and hard to diagnose electrical issues relate back to insufficient grounding. It’s often the problem in what I term “the eternal curse of trailer lights”, especially on open trailers. I now run ground wires from the vehicle connector’s ground directly to the trailer lights and don’t rely on the often unreliable grounding effect from grounds near the lights back through the metal trailer components to the vehicle ground. It’s cut my curse count back significantly.

Burnishing ?ALL the connection points, grounds, bulb sockets, horn, etc. and adding a thin coat of NO-OX-ID A Special helps to prevent corrosion and promote conductivity; Di-Electric grease does NOT promote conductivity but does prevent corrosion.
When I do this everything works better; the lights are brighter, the starter spins better, the horn is loud and distinct, but it also depends on what kind of life and what mx was performed on the bike over its life, through how many owners?
And I am glad I replaced my wiring harness, it was just due. Everything now works just like new.

Hi all. I was having problems with my starter relay on my 75 90S? . My mechanic rebuilt the relay but it failed again.? I noticed that Boxer2Valve? was showing a replacement relay thad no moving parts.? Anyone have experience with one? ? Ted Cymbaly? ? Sent from for Windows 10 ?

Not addressing your primary question…but….is the starter motor in this bike a stock Bosch?...or, is it a Valeo or other starter?
There are definite problems, not always, but relatively common, for the stock starter relay not to last long, sometimes even to fry the contacts, with the Valeo, etc….诲耻别 to the larger current drain and back-voltage generated.? That's addressed on my website…but, I was curious about your problem.

Hi Neil.? Check to see if there is 12 volts at the big heavy red wire on the diode board. It is on the lower left as sitting on the bike. This come straight from the battery. Check this to anywhere on the engine case for the ground. I’m wondering if you arced a connector inside one of the main ground wire ends. This being the wire from the battery to the transmission. Also recheck the battery connections for clean and tight. You had two turns of the starter motor which makes me think your short pulled alot of amp through an old crimp terminal.

Donald - those are jam nuts intended to prevent the cables from coming loose. They jam against the cable ferrule. I think they may have only been used on the /6 machines and 90S. It must have been discovered they weren't needed since newer bikes came without
them, and the cables certainly don't need them to remain tight. - Terry

The 16mm tach and 18mm speedo hex nuts - are they intended to be placed on the instrument stems before attaching the respective cables, then wound down against the top of the cable's threaded attachments to keep them from unwinding? May also prevent water
ingress? I see no function for them if wound up against the bottom of the instruments.
