When I was refurbing my bike I had a broken bolt or two in the seat hinge. I carefully stripped the cover and the foam off, removed the broken bolts, had the seat pan sandblasted. I then had nuts welded on the inside of the pan for the damaged threads, and reassembled with the original seat cover and foam.
I should have realized that the foam had likely deteriorated in 45 years and, I assume foam technology has advanced since then.? Has anyone found a more comfortable seat foam than the original that would be worth the effort to install? Failing that, any recommendations for seat gadgets such as beads or air cushions that significantly improve riding comfort for a skinny 75 y/o as$?
