In 2014 three of us rode the Trans America on R80G/Ss. If I recall correctly we were in Louisville, KY and needed mechanical help so we went to the local BMW dealer, a guy younger than our airheads told told us they don¡¯t work on airheads , but gave us the name & address of a local good airhead mechanic who we went to and who fixed our problem(s).
SO call the dealer several to mes ? until maybe you can find someone who recalls the guy. If he exists, AND if he is still working ?

Yes Gunther is a wizard with the air cooled BMW's. I met him through a friend who has a R90. I am not sure I would have bought this bike if he wasn't so close. The local BMW dealer in Louisville isn't even competent on the newer BMW's much less a old air cooled bike. The bike I am buying has a lot of neat updates but the owner had 32mm Bing CV's installed for reliability and I already have a new set of the 38mm Delorto's which belong on the bike. I also intend to update the ignition to the crank driven Endura Last/Sachse system and coils. I love project bikes and this one should be a interesting one.
