If my choice was between a day at the races or an opera I guess you would find me at the opera ?

?"Beauty's always in the eye of the beholder" of course, but I tend to agree with James & Nick here.? While there's no denying that DO / egg yolk (it reminded me of a Creamsicle ice cream bar) is an eye-catcher, when recently having my '75 R90S repainted I chose Silver Smoke. Perhaps I felt it better matched my personality.?

?The choice was a forced result of a crash.... my first such incident in the last 4 decades of riding. I was still wearing dark glasses well after sunset, and, distracted by the glare of street & commercial lighting, didn't see the rubber barrel-barricade that I clipped- throwing bike & me to the ground.? It was more embarrassing than anything else, but it broke the cockpit/fairing & left some of the other painted parts scarred.. ??

I'd bought the bike from an online seller, based only on photos and discussions with the owner,? a couple decades-plus? earlier, to join the R90/6 I already had. ? The S? had a custom paint job- a two-tone metallic gold/bronze- nice enough color wise but a previous owner had painted a graphic of an S rider in a tight lean on the tank, which I really hated. ? I'd long considered having the bike restored to stock colors; and the accident gave me that opportunity.?

Anyways, the re-painter uncovered so many coats of different colors while stripping down that we never really figured out what its original color had been. Some mods to the bike, such as a braced swing arm and lightened fly wheel suggested that the bike might have been used at some point at a track.

The DO bikes do seem more popular now and are definitely more common where I live, so I suspect you're right, Nick, about the likelihood that there are now more such bikes than originally sold. ? In any case, I'm? delighted with the results of the re-paint, which was done by a very talented fellow in my area who had come highly recommended by other happy R90S owners.

I'd post a photo but I don't have the bike fully reassembled.? (Unfortunately, I'd sold the R90/6 not long before my crash; so, bike-less for a bit, I bought an '05 BMW R1200ST for a daily rider in the interim.)
