Re: Graphic view of the event in OW
Hello Hristo and Jan,
I use already OccultWatcher with my local horizon file. It is working and I can see the horizon image and/or red numbers. But ... I have no idea if it is only a little or completely covered by my horizon. The image I uploaded is the event from my home station with my (real) horizon and that is the next events during June. Two events are very close to the horizon line ... so I could install my second mount on the terrace corner (my main instrument with mount is in the center of the terrace). Hristo, you wrote ... "There is also a way to get all 'My Events' from an Add-in from the IOWHost2 interface. In your add-in code in the InitializeAddin() method am IOWHost is passed in. You can cast this to an IOWHost2 and then latest call the GetMyEvents() method. Let me know if you need more info on that." ... What ? You know, it toke me several weeks for modifying your script for writing my Add-in. A little help from you will be necessary :-) It was not my plan to list every possible events in one graphic. The idea is to show all the listed events in OccultWatcher (not only "My Events") after the filtering ... for example it would be for me now around 20 (some events are listed in several Tags). The graphic should be interactive ... mean when the mouse move above the dot, some information is shown ... at least the asteroid name and the date. Concerning extending the SDK ... yes, you can add some token ... for example the asteroid magnitude. Or you can add more information for the Excel export (the star elevation and azimuth were not exported). Regards, Jean-Fran?ois |

for intended purpose you can use for desktop OW the "UserHorizon.txt" file to define your local horizon with obstructions. If the target falls "below" defined user horizon, the alt/az informatin is shown in red as warning. jan ______________________________________________________________ Od: "Jean-Francois" <jean-francois.pittet@...> |
Re: Graphic view of the event in OW
Hi Jean-Fran?ois, OW allows you to define your local horizon profile and will then take it into account when computing the altitude of the star and exclude events where the star it too close to an obstruction on the horizon. There is also a way to get all 'My Events' from an Add-in from the IOWHost2 interface. In your add-in code in the InitializeAddin() method am IOWHost is passed in. You can cast this to an IOWHost2 and then latest call the GetMyEvents() method. Let me know if you need more info on that. Currently it is not possible to get a list of absolutely all events. The idea is that OW filtering will help users to filter the events and entering a local horizon should help with that. I like your idea of visually presenting the location of the events on a local horizon polot. Would doing this only for the 'My Events' achieve what you want? If you are interested in ploting absolutely all events this would be likely too many events and then it would be difficult to do something with them. If you are interested in doing something more specific and extending the SDK could help you with that please reach out and we can talk about it further. Cheers, Hristo.

Re: Moving OW to another computer
Hi Vince, Unfortunately there is no easy way to do that. Settings are saved in the Registry, which was the recommended place 16 years ago when OW was designed. You need to reinstall OW (or simply copy the directory it is installed in), then manually set all your settings from the OW UI. If you are feeling brave you could do Registry export and import. I'm not going to go in more details than this. If you know how to do that the above info must be sufficient. Hristo. Occultation event from OccultWatcher to SharpCap and more ...
Hello,
It is time to release my SharpCap script and my Addin for OccultWatcher. Unfortunately, I have no "real" occultation event during the very short period with clear sky in the past 4 weeks. I tested a lot my script inside. Only on rare occasion outside. Several conditions are necessary: - update OccultWatcher with the last version 5.2.0 (if not already done automatically) - download the last beta version 4.1 of SharpCap (my script work only with the version 4.1.10652.0 or later) - I guess that you need the ASCOM 6.5 or above (I'm not 100% sure for that) Unzip the ZIP somewhere on your computer. Open the PDF document ... and start to read it. For the use ... you can connect SharpCap with the ASCOM Telescope Simulator and you can use the Sky-Simulator for testing the GOTO and PlateSolve functions. The script can work with any telescope that can be connected to SharpCap. I tested with my EQ8 with SynScan and GSS. And I tested with my old Meade LXD75 mount. The script is written for the QHY-174 GPS camera, but it should be possible to use it with any other camera (clear that the GPS function will not work). If you have no EAGLE computer, then you can modify the line 81 to "EAGLE = False", that will speed up the start of the script. Best regards, Jean-Francois |
Re: An OW KML issue or PINK/BLUE rending issue.
Hi Vince, I released an update that will now show a white line pointer from the submitted location to the superimposed altitude corrected chord. Hopefully this makes it more obvious. Hristo.

I had selected a mobile location from which to observe it, but it turns out that I had to change locations. This isn't anything new for me. To facilitate the change, I cancelled all stations for the event and then selected a new location using "Add to my events". This new location is closer to the center line than the original location. After adding the event, OW refreshes and displays The station locations on the pink/blue overhead view. When I use the "Save 'Google earth' kml file" feature, the following is displayed in Google Earth. In OW, the big black bar is my Home location which looks correct on the pink/blue chart, near the southern, but the new location of the mobile site is nowhere close to where it is suppose to be. the kml rendering shows the location to be just south of center line, but the pink/blue chart in OW shows it well to the north of the center line. I triple checked the Long/Lat/Elev in both the placemark in Google Earth and the site coordinates in OW and they match (OW stores the long/lat only to 5 decimal places whereas Google Earth store them to 6). I restarted OW and the behavior is the same. I then clicked on "Show online map with stations" and this is what is displayed. My site is in the correct location, but the pink/blue, as it is in OW doesn't place my site in the correct place.? Is this part of the new feature of OWC? the "white line seems to be match? the location where the pink/blue (i don't know what this is called) shows it. So many questions. Do I have to consider the White line when attempting to decide on where to observe? The save kml feature of OW doesn't show the white line. will OW have that feature soon? I have updated all my OW sites to include the elevation from Google Earth. The elevation corrections are a good thing, but everything needs to be synced in order to make event planning more accurate. GMail and OccultWatcher
Hi David, all, I made a change today thay may have fixed the issue with GMail rejecting OW's emails. If some of you with gmail accounts start receiving emails again, please let me know. Hristo.

Hi David,
GMail is a pain, the password
reset messages have been returned. I've been trying to get
emails be sent to gmail users but looks like still no luck.
Easiest way out is to use an
email address that is not in GMAIL
As the email messages are
returned without explanation why this is done I can only guess
and so far my guessing appears to not have been correct. I
added DMARC, MXE and SPL domain entries for the domain - still
not working. occultwatcher.net has been blacklisted in one
list (which is added and removed automatically) and I have no
control over that. Wondering if this is because the name
contains the word 'occult'... I have no idea what GMail does
to protect you from spam, phishing etc, and they won't tell
me.
I could also manually reset
your password. Send me a direct email for this.
Hristo.

Re: [OWCloud] OccultWatcher & OWC Update - Phase 1 for Altitude Corrections
OWC update has been now released. A few notes on how the plot works right now in Phase 1. The shadow path (green, blue and red lines) are non-elevation corrected. The telescopes are the actual locations of the submitted stations. The chords (while or orange lines) for newly submitted stations are the elevation corrected chord relative to the path of the shadow. After selecting a location on the GoogleMaps OWC will obtain the elevation for the location and then will draw two white lines as per the image below. The white coord will be where the actual position is going to be related to the path, in the image below while the selected location is close to the non-elevation corrected center line (green line) the elevation corrected path puts the location outside of the shadow (between blue and red lines): The position of the chord on the OW Plot will correspond to the elevation corrected chord. See how on the plot below the chord is in the 1-sigma zone: The altitude can be also manually entered or updated which will cause the chord to be updated, too. I hope that all this makes sense. In phase 2 the entire path will be elevation corrected and the chords will run through the selected location, while the shadow path will be moved accordinly. So once Phase 2 is released, for the above example the while chord line will run through the telescope and the green line (and rest of the path) will be shifted to the lower right, leaving the white cord path again between the elevation corrected blue and red shadow lines. Please note that all current chords submitted before this version will not be elevation corrected so the elevation correction for planning should be considered functional only for future stations. Hristo.

The UI / user eperience should be self explanatory but let me know what you think. I have done accuracy testing to ensure elevation corrections are computed correctly. Re: Add to my events doesn't default to what I would like it so show.
Hi Vince, The behaviour you describe appears to be a bug or an overlooked functionality after GoogleMaps was decommissioned for Desktop and I moved submissions of stations from OW Desktop to redirect to using the GoogleMaps in OWC. Thanks for reporting this. I have added it to the backlog of things I need to fix: Hristo.
