Re: Unhandled exception in Occult Watcher

Hi Kirk,

The Asteroidal Occultation Report Addin requires locally installed Microsoft Office to work, when it prefills an Excel form. If you do not have it installed it will not work.

There are plans to move the report pre-filling on a web page and this will get rid of the requirement to have MS Office. We are probably months away however from getting there.

In the mean time if you know someone with programming skills who is willing to implement a support for prefilling the Excel form in LibreOffice or another - I will be happy to provide guidance in their development effort.

I personally don't have plans to add support for LibreOffice - sorry about that.

Regards,
Hristo.

Hello,

I'm using Occult Watcher v. 4.7.0.2, and I tried to do a prefilled report using the Asteroidal Occultation Report Addin, ver 1.9,? under Windows 7.

When I click on the "prefill report" button, it gives an unhandled exception dialog (screenshot attached), I guess it is trying to run Excel in Microsoft Office, however I do not have Microsoft Office installed, I do not wish to purchase it, and I am using the free Open Office application to edit spreadsheets.? I am able to submit reports without using this feature, by editing all the fields myself, but I would like the convenience of a prefilled report.

I suggest in a future update that the addin:

--At least handle the exception and give a descriptive error message rather than a generic Windows unhandled exception dialog.

Also, if possible:

--Launch whatever application the user has assigned to the spreadsheet file type .xls, whether it be Microsoft Office, Open Office, LibreOffice, or another application.

--Have another button that rather than launching a spreadsheet application, allows the user to save the prefilled .xls file to a folder, for later editing with whatever application the user chooses.

If you are not the author of this addin, please let me know whom to contact.

thanks,

Kirk Bender

Re: OW never end syncronise

If by 'Planet' you refer to the Planet Satellites then this may be the problem.

There are currently no events shared in this feed and this may be causing the problem. Try deselecting it and synchronizing again.

Let me know if this helps.

Hristo.

Hello All,

I have an issue with the OW. The "Syncronise now" function never ends, and it means that it will try to syncronise three or four hours without finish! The software start normally and seems to download the options selected in the Prediction feeds: IOTA, Priority Events, Planned, Rio, Lucky, IBEROC, Planet, etc., and when it gets to the last one, it stops for ever!.?
and becomes "nailed"?

The following installation instructions have been done...

  • Create a folder where you want to install Occult Watcher e.g. C:\Occult Watcher. Please DO NOT create it under C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files (x86)
  • Download and extract it into the newly created folder
  • Right click on OWUpdate.exe and choose 'Run as administrator ...'

OW has been installed/de-installed without positive results. The computer's OS is WIN 7 pro and the the OW version 4.7.2

Any one has an idea of how to fix it?? Thank you.

Re: Introductions

Hello Murray,

Yes Brian has been helpful. I am just starting out and hoping once the cloud has gone away to get started getting some observations under me belt. We have had more or less poor viewing conditions for the last 8 weeks. Very frustrating. ;-)

Hi Al,

?

Welcome to the 'clouded out' club.

?

I live in the Hutt Valley (Wellington), so am a bit far away to help out with any type of hands-on/in-person learning but happy to chat by email.

?

There are also some 'occultationists' in the South Island, whom I'm sure will introduce themselves to you (Brian Loader is probably closest to you, also being in Chch).

?

There's also plenty of on-line resources - with www.occultations.org.nz being the website for the Australia/NZ observers.

?

Cheers,

Murray.

The IOTA group will be provide a lot more detailed information as Peter has said.

Good luck, and its good to have another occultation observer.? Occult Watcher is a very powerful collaboration tool.

Re: Run Cam Eagle

Thanks Hristo
No, presently I am not using Lunar occultation feed for Occult watcher. I am using it only for Asteroid occultations.?
I do not want anyone to work for me to feed Lunar occultations.
I simply use Occult 4 for Lunar occultations daily, and I am happy with it

Hi Suhas,

Apologies for the delayed response.

I am assuming you are using the Lunar Occultations feed and add-in in OccultWatcher.

Have you installed the add-in already from ?

This feed also needs additional configuration based on which part of the world you are located and if there are lunar events in your region?

The 'out of the box' OccultWatcher only includes asteroidal occultations.

Let me know if this information was useful and if you have further questions.

Hello
I started using run cam eagle recently. I was surprised to even miss the lunar occultation of 6th mag star. I am sure, I missed it because of wrong selection of Camera settings like brightness and contrast.
Can some experienced user suggest the good setting for various sky conditions and Moon phase??
