Re: personal feed file not working

Hi Vince,

I am with you.

My approach is that these events are just there and not picked up by anyone else.
I expect the security aspect is the same as all other predictions.
And so not really requiring any further consideration.
Happy with other feed's security, so why worry about "Personal".

Hi Vince,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on all this.

Hristo,

My use case is as follows:

I normally use one scope size (8" SCT) and observe events from home or I drive locally to mobile events.
I am also working on getting access t a larger (permanent pier) scope which isn't too far from my home location,? so I end up searching for events from my home location but go a couple of magnitudes dimmer. I then examine each even to determine if the path is over me and then separate the events into which scope I will use.? I end up discarding the low mag events that I would have to travel to. right now this is a paper exercise as I don't yet have access to the bigger scope (closed during the monsoon season). This process has nothing to do with personal predictions, I can adjust the settings of OW.

A few days ago I took some time to play around with Occult and was surprised that I was seeing some events in Occult from my location that weren't showing up in any other feed. It is possible I didn't set the settings in OW correctly to pick these events up, but that is beside the point These didn't seem so far out of the ordinary, so I wanted to bring them into OW for further scrutiny. That is when I discovered the issues with the mapping.?

To me, I didn't regard "personal" and being for only me, I thought of them as events I found via Occult that aren't available on other feeds.

As far as personal security goes, OW already has some security features when adding an event to "My Events", so I'm not sure what others are using their "personal predictions" for. If you don't want anyone to know about them, don't add them to "My Events".? Nobody else can see personal predictions unless they add them to "My Events", right? Perhaps a better solution is to have an additional entry in the "Show site to Others" drop down menu. The entry would be "Complete Privacy", which means the icon would not appear on any map so nobody would know they were observing it. The event could still be added to their "My Events" as a reminder, but when added, it wouldn't be pushed to any station notifications.?

My assumption was that the personal predictions imported from Occult should look and behave like any other "feed" prediction, they are just events that weren't available elsewhere.

Perhaps we can hear from others who do personal predictions to see how they use them.?
