Re: Finally pointed the UC18 at the green comet

Hi Frank, Richard,
How long have you been enjoying your UCs?
I just received my UC22 in early January.?
It is quite a beast.?
I unfortunately couldn’t get a ServoCAT as the company fell victim to the Si Chip shortage. So sad as they have served the community for so long. But did get an Argo. ?
First big scope. Only used 10” dob prior. Getting comfortable with it.?
I had to modify my house for it. A slider door got converted into French double doors.?
Win-win as the wife is excited about doors ?
Just had it out tonight looking at M42, M45 and Betelgeuse.?
Wow to all of them. The filaments in M42. The blues too. Simply wow.?
Betelgeuse looked like a fireball. Like the color of our sun. Beautiful.?
Incredible instrument thanks to Dave Kriege.?
What have you been able to see? ?By the way, I am strictly a visual observer.?

Thanks Frank.

Does your UC22 have ServoCAT installed?

Would be fun to slip a Mallincam DS278c camera into your feather touch focuser.

Re: Finally pointed the UC18 at the green comet

Frank,

Sounds like a plan.

A dark site + ServoCAT + Argo Navis + Mallincam DS287c + a UC22 would be awesome!

I am looking for a north east Ga site.

Richard

Re: Scope cover for 15" classic

Just received the Orion cover today and it fits the 15" Classic fine. You can even leave the finders attached to the UTA.

Re: Scope cover for 15" classic

It should work.? The 15 UC is smaller than an
Orion 16.

I have not used it as much as I thought I would. Its a great scope! I retired about 6 months after I bought it and my wife and I are traveling a lot?now so opportunities to observe when the weather is cooperating and we are not traveling is not as much as I hoped. I might get a solar scope or smaller observing scope that is more portable for traveling.

Re: Source for 1.25 inch truss poles

In my prior response, the list did not include aluminum tubes with an outer diameter of 1.5”. ?If you go to ?you will find tubes with an OD of 1.5” with a variety of wall thickness that can be custom cut to length. ?

Re: Source for 1.25 inch truss poles

Check with companies selling the tubes to build radio antennas. Texas Towers and DX Engineering are good places to start and usually have stock.
dxzone.com has links for others:?https://www.dxzone.com/catalog/Manufacturers/Antenna_Parts/Aluminium_Tubing/

Re: Source for 1.25 inch truss poles

The above company has 1.5” aluminum tubes (outer diameter).

Source for 1.25 inch truss poles

Does anyone know of a reliable online source for 1.25 inch aluminum tubes for truss pole construction?

Thanks
