My friends in San Diego have a 25 and a 20. Now that they have DSCs they use those most of the time. But I recall when my friend was using a Celestron Comet Catcher as a finder! Of course that was a Classic so there was more surface to mount things on (the mirror box). I used a 9x60 finder on my 18 inch dob for years and found I could get a decent balance and it went pretty deep. If I could not get within a degree and then use a 31mm nagler I was pretty much lost. But you can see how on the UC something like that gets heavy enough to cause Alt Clutch slippage if use goto. Thats a few pounds way up there. Which I why I liked clamping the 9x60 down on a truss pole. I could A) not affect balance and B) stand on the ground if using it. Being only 170cm tall, many objects are too high, and its a pain to find out you have to move the ladder further. "Religion... together we can find the cure." - Richard Dawkins"

I have a 22" UC and both Stellarvue finders. When I'm in the mood for star hopping or forced into that situation I like the 13x80. It matches my star atlas well down to 11th mag and makes it easier to star hop IMO. In other cases when in GOTO mode I'll use the 10x50 for quick finding or alignment. The 10x50 does double duty on my 11" f/5.4 Starmaster. Matt Orsie - Hedgesville, WV On Sun, Oct 11, 2020 at 11:27 AM Netscape via <P21932=[email protected]> wrote: Hello All, |
