Friday, March 4, is
#nationalwedgeday
From R&R's twitter account:
Don't forget that Friday, March 4, is #NationalWedgeDay, a Oh how I wish PDS were still alive to see this, so that we could see his reaction to it! -- Chris Webster |
Patched Thursday, 2018
August 24, 2018? UP 6378 east crosses the Humboldt River at Palisade, Nevada. Due to a wildfire, eastbound trains were running on the ex-SP line in Palisade that afternoon instead of the ex-WP. The train is grain empties heading back to the Midwest for another load for export. Mike Tisdale |

Mike, yes, of course.? Painfully obvious.? Here in New England, xwe are about to get even more of it, with Berkshire & Eastern, after April.? That is the new operator of the former Boston & Maine mainline through Hoosac Tunnel, per the CSX acquisition proposal
for Pan Am.? The Borg spreads even further....
Only time will tell if the B&E proposal proves to be workable, or simply another farce leading to? the death of the second major mainline across all of Massachusetts.

The old green and cream paint scheme was a classic, and looked good on anything.??
G&W orange is not a bad paint job...it is just that there is a lot of it on various lines.??

Mike, thanks.? I always liked the GP15-1, especially the big order placed by Conrail.? Those appeared in a number of locations around New York State upon delivery.
I went out of my way to find and photograph the California Northern units around Petaluma and south.? They were quite photogenic.

Wichita Falls Wednesday, 1977
At dusk on 1 October 1977, the only mainline train that I saw all day in Wichita Falls came through, a southeast bound freight with SP U33C 8633, U30C 7902 and C&S SD9s 855 & 858. I was in Wichita Falls, Texas for Air Force tech school at Sheppard AFB and went to the FW&D tracks a few times while I was there to watch trains. The FW&D line was not very busy as Powder River Basin coal traffic had not yet started, so the line had only a few trains a day. Because of this, I only went to town to railfan 3 or 4 times between August 1977 and March 1978, when I was there. In retrospect, I wish I'd gone more often. I should have brought a book with me to read between trains and camped out at various locations, as what was ordinary then, it history now.? The Colorado and Southern / Fort Worth and Denver line ran from Denver to Amarillo, Fort Worth and Dallas.? The FW&D dated from when Texas required railroads operating in the state to be Texas corporations.? Both became subsidiaries of the Burlington, then BN. Mike Tisdale |
Newcastle Sunset Saturdy, 2022
The dogs and I took a walk at Newcastle, California this afternoon around sunset. I was hoping for a train in the low light as we walked along the track, but the only train that showed up was a westbound Z train (high priority intermodal) after sundown.? We got some exercise and I enjoyed the trees in bloom, while the dogs enjoyed whatever they were sniffing along the way. Mike Tisdale |
