Cumbrian Coast Sunday

 

I like the old British Railways DMUs. You could sit right behind the driver and have his view of the track ahead, even better than a Budd dome car for seeing out the front. Here we are running along the coast between Barrow in Furness and Carlisle in northwestern England and meeting a southbound DMU train. 40 years ago.

I like the cabbage cars.? They look pretty much like they did as engines and are a bit better to have leading if the train runs into something than a cab car full of passengers.??

        Amtrak Capitol Corridor train 729 behind P32 2051 passes a flowering bush in Penryn, California. 1 March 2008. When the railroad was new, a spur to a quarry came off the mainline around this spot.
