The Zoom class is hosted by Jim Williams, a fellow HAM (amateur radio operator) from Frenchman's Creek.? The class will cover the basic set-up and operation of the recommended radio, the Midland GTX1000. This class is for you if:
- you just bought the Midland GTX1000
- you have a similar radio and would like to know how to use it
- you are considering getting a walkie or curious about walkies for OCEAN use

How to use a walkie-talkie
Hello everyone,
There is a free webinar this Thursday that will cover how to use a walkie-talkie hosted by Jim Williams from Frenchman's Creek.? Although it will refer to the Midland GTX1000 often, you can apply the same principles covered to any FRS/GMRS radio.? You don't have to own a radio to attend.?
You can sign up in advance for the Zoom meeting .?

Right at the moment, both of my Midland WTs are showing weird symptoms, and I'm now not sure I can get either of them up for todays' test.? I may have to bow out,
regrettably.

You can contact me for a radio check this weekend.? I, too, will be using my VHF/UHF radio as my FRS station.? I believe the frequency is 467.5875MHz (no CCTS or DTS).
If you look at our Calendar, The Great Shakedown on 10/10 is there.? This is what we are shooting for.? This is why I'm so excited with getting OCEAN up and running before then.? Sadly, out of 20 people that showed interest, only 6 stepped up to the plate.? I am in the process of obtaining a roster of CERTs here in OC.??
Aside from you and I, Corwin is the only other ham I know in OC.? There should be more.? It will take some more time to find them.

I'm good for 7PM Monday, and would like to check-in with you prior to that, since I just realized that my two Midland walkie-talkies, wich have been standing by for a couple of years or so, have never contacted anyone else! :-(.? I would also like to see how my 2m ham radio performs on FRS.? Could u give me ur phone number, so I can call you over the weekend?? (I don't seem to have it in my
phone!).
Do you think we want to try to involve our OCEAN group in the Great Shakeout CERT exercise that's coming up?? It could give us a good idea of why are organizing like this for emergency communications.
