FEB6 DRILL

CERT Neighborhood Lead
What we learned from the past:
?????The last drill we conducted was the Great Shakeout on October 10, 2020. The drill lasted for 1 hour.? 15 minutes into the drill, a simulated earthquake occurred sending us into action.??
?Resources that we had:
?We had 5 participants:
1 ham as Net Control and Ham Lead - Eagle 361
1 ham and a certified CERT - WingedFoot2101l
1 certified CERT - Eagle368
1 WT Operator (Op) and Net Scribe-? Carnoustie127
1 WT Op - Pembroke10?
What we did well:
We were able to establish WT and ham comms within 5 minutes of the earthquake;
We managed to assess damages within our designated territories;
We managed to assist a few injured residents;
We managed to medivac one resident via helicopter;
We disseminated outside information to OC residents;
We reported damage assessments and critical information to the DOC;
We were able to adapt well to all situations as they came up.
What we failed to do:
We did not plan on losing one of our volunteers;
We were unable to cover all of OC;
WT comms began to fail due to the location of our Rally Point;
We were spread too thin (only one person per territory);
Each of us were easily overwhelmed with tasks;
No scheduled relief of posts.
What we will do on FEB6:
Overview:
?????Now, we will conduct a similar drill based on an earthquake disaster.? This time, we have more volunteers, more certified CERTs, and 2 hams!? We have Jim Williams of HMBARC to act as our DOC.? We will improvise scenarios for the drill. ? We will implement a system of redundancy such that we can tackle multiple tasks safely and still be able to assist or relieve one another.? We will adapt a new neighborhood subdivision.? So, if you¡¯re new, don¡¯t worry.? We¡¯ll make sure someone with experience is with you.? If you have done this before, tasks will be easier to execute.? We will improvise, adapt, and overcome.
Resources we have:
2 hams - WingedFoot2101 and Eagle361
4 certified CERTs - WingledFoot2101, Eagle361, Eagle368, and Pembroke10
5 WT Ops - 2x Muirfield2, RiverOaks60, Eagle353, and Carnoustie127
A better location for our Rally Point
A redefined subdivision of Ocean Colony
Goals:
? ? Everyone should operate within their comfort level.? If, for any reason, you don¡¯t think
You are up to the task given to you, please say so.? Also, the weather might not cooperate with us during the drill.? Just make-do with what you can.? If you have a go-bag, make sure it¡¯s ready but do NOT bring it with you.? If you have safety equipment like goggles, gloves, and masks, I¡¯ll leave it up to you to bring them or not.? Those who will not be mobile should remain at home (binoculars and a window goes a long way.? Please plan on operating outside your home to achieve the best radio reception during the drill.? Plan on relaying radio messages in case someone is out of range.? If you have a ham radio and would like to listen in on traffic between the DOC and OC, you may do so but do NOT transmit.????
Certified CERTs will:
Establish communications between Ocean Colony CERTs, and with public agency responders on the Coastside;
Provide first aid for life-threatening and other injuries until professional assistance is available;
Comfort and assist survivors to cope with disasters
Locate and turn off utilities to avoid fire risk, if called for;
Extinguish small fires; and
Conduct light search and rescue operations.
WT Ops will:
Establish communications between Ocean Colony CERTs;
Comfort and assist survivors c. Assist certified CERTs when they can
I am finalizing the scripts now and all should have one by Wednesday.
